West Des Moines Historical Society
About the Business
The West Des Moines Historical Society, located at 2001 Fuller Road in West Des Moines, Iowa, is dedicated to preserving and educating the public about the history of Central Iowa. Visitors can experience the beautiful Victorian architecture of The Jordan House and the historic Bennett School, one of the last one-room schoolhouses built in Iowa. Your support through tax-deductible contributions helps to enrich the community through education, preservation, and celebration of the area's rich history. Walk through the halls of the past, witness Victorian elegance, and hear stories of bravery and hardship as you become a part of history. The Jordan House, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is a member of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program. The Bennett School, built in the 1920s, was one of the last one-room schools in West Des Moines. The Society also offers opportunities for membership and development, including a part-time Membership and Development Coordinator position. Additionally, the City Council recently approved the name "Legacy Woods" for nearly 30 acres of land next to the Jordan House Museum, where nature and history will combine to educate, invigorate, and inspire visitors.
