"Looked @ 2 bedroom apt & additional facilities. I met leasing manager, Jenny. She was efficient & through! Would recommend checking them out if looking for apt, many options!"
"I've been living here a little more than a year overall, very quiet, pet friendly, and safe. Signed on for another year. Jenny is nice, and maintenance men are friendly and generally quickly responsive. Hallways clean and odor free. No pests. The only complaint is some poor landscaping this year, but they just hired a company and are working on it. For now, it is a good value and have no plans of leaving."
"They let the maintenance man stand around, then increase your rent..do not complain about ice or cars traveling to fast, they don't care. I asked for ice melt or salt last year, and it took them a month saying we need to be careful it's not their responsibility, before they finally did anything. They raised my rent $100! I told them about the car speeding, they said we have to look out for the cars. Will not put a speed limit sign will not put speed bumps it is the pedestrians responsibility for getting hit. Last I knew that pedestrians had a right away. But obviously that is not done here. I am moving now because I increased my rent to $850 within two and a half years I started out at $555 a month just two and a half years ago. So if you move in keep your mouth shut they don't care about their tenants they care about the money they make!"
"The apartment I lived in costed 1,600$ per month, an insanely high price for an apartment. So what do you get for that value? Cheap vinyl floors that they tell you are hardwood despite clearly being vinyl, extremely cheap amenities that break down frequently including air conditioning, weak and hollow walls that let sound through incredible easily, and a foundation that was so unstable one of my partner's co-workers who had painted the apartments for a previous job had to come because the foundation was so unstable. The bathrooms have a washer, dryer, and shower all in one room, which sounds convenient until you realize all the heat it produces, it wouldn't be an issue if the bathroom had a reliable vent, but the only vent in the room was needlessly combined with an overhead light, completely blocking the airflow, and the vent is controlled automatically, but in none of the 4 months I spent there did I ever hear the vent actually turn on, the non-functional vent combined with the heat of the shower and dryer led to mold growing all over the bathroom within the first week. The washer leaves clothes with a strange odor and stains. The only good thing I can say about the apartments themselves is the space, and that was already there before they even renovated. The management of the property is somehow even worse, the property manager at Altoona Towers failed to communicate properly on multiple occasions, most noticeably when our AC unit had broken down during a heat wave, and it had taken them 2 weeks just to fix it. Another example is when after driving 2 hours out to Iowa and having warned them 2 weeks in advance that I was going to move in, when I had arrived they had told me that they lost the file to get the paperwork, and had to do it on another date, and keep in mind they scheduled it, and had 2 weeks to prepare. The Internet at altoona towers is also awful, they use "VisionSystems" an unreliable and incredibly slow internet service, that regularly stops working, you're better off just using your cellular data because it is far more reliable. For $1,600 a month, you can find far, far better for much less anywhere else, I would never recommend these apartments to anyone."
"4.3 average rating seems a little low. I’m very happy with the interior quality and exterior maintenance. It’s clean and well maintained. Managers have always been organized and gone above and beyond what I expected. I have recommended Altoona towers at work and to friends of friends. At first, I signed a 6 month lease and tried to find a better deal closer to Grimes… couldn’t find a better deal :) been here a year and very happy."
