Partnerships in Prevention Science Institute (PPSI)

Partnerships in Prevention Science Institute (PPSI) is a research institution located at 2325 North Loop Drive in Ames, Iowa, United States. Our mission is to conduct prevention and health promotion research that positively impacts the health and well-being of youth, adults, families, and communities in Iowa and beyond. We focus on studying the implementation, evaluation, and dissemination of evidence-based interventions, while partnering with communities to build capacity and facilitate systems change for sustainability and public health impact.

Through our work, we emphasize the development of implementation systems and training-technical assistance infrastructures for broader dissemination of evidence-based interventions. We believe that partnerships with communities are essential for creating positive, long-term outcomes for youth, adults, families, and communities. PPSI collaborates with scientists and practitioners nationally and internationally to support our mission.

Our PROSPER project has been recognized as a Tier 1 Comprehensive Community Initiative with positive impacts on child, youth, and family outcomes. A report by Trust for America’s Health has championed PROSPER for its effectiveness in reducing substance abuse and behavior problems among high-risk youth. Our investigators and collaborators have secured over $80 million in grants, primarily from the National Institutes of Health, over the last 25 years.
