Reviews of Regenexx Des Moines
"Please read! I had tendinitis in both elbows. Couldn’t even work out with 3lb weights. Elbows ached at night while trying to sleep. My right shoulder had a partial tear. I had to keep a pillow wedged underneath so I could lie flat on my back. All three areas were injected at the same time. The first couple of days were rough…. Dr. Urbanek told me it would take 6-8 months to really feel the difference. It’s been over a year now. I can workout with regular weights, nothing aches at night, and I don’t need a pillow wedged under my shoulder anymore. I would do it again for sure."
"My husband received platelet injections last October. He could not even stand for more than a few minutes and could not walk very far. He was like this for several years. We had asked so many doctors to help but was always told the same, they couldn't pinpoint one thing to fix. He has five bulging disc and spinal stenosis We are at about 10 months later and he is doing so much better since the injections. He just went on a 2 mile walk today it has been going on daily walks for probably the last month. His back pain was also immediately gone after he got off the table last October. He never took any pain pills afterr the procedure. Before his back was at a constant eight for pain and now it's about a one or two. So happy he got this done!! I hope it lasts a long time. His back is still not perfect, but it's a huge improvement. And we would do this again if needed."
"Summary if you choose not to read on the below details: These costly non-insured procedures did not make any noticeable positive impact on knee pain levels for myself, my daughter and my son. Details: Our journey with Regenexx began with myself Jan 2021 when I saw Dr. Michael Jackson for my knee arthritis and MCL issues with associated pain/swelling. He determined I was a good candidate for Platelets on one knee and Stem in another. Through out the year, via phone follow up's with his assistant, I reported no improvements. Dr. Jackson left and Dr. Mussman came in on a temporary basis. When I came in to see him after a year had passed, he confirmed that no significant improvement in my knees and recommended a repeated procedure but according to latest research, shots would be in my knee bone instead of around it. I didn't do it for financial reasons and other family members going through it. To date, no improvement. My oldest daughter had her PRP's on both knees from Dr. Jackson in 3/21, just a couple of months after my shots. Again, knee pain since she was a teen. No improvements either reported via phone follow up's. She was seen by Dr. Mussman same time as I did for my follow up and diagnosed her with hyper mobility (which Dr. Jackson did not bring up) and recommended a repeated PRP at higher concentration which was done March 2022. To date, no improvements. After visiting with Dr. Urbanek, he recommended getting an MRI to look more into other potential causes within the knee structure. Which we did not. My teenage son, received his PRP in Jan 2022 in his right knee with pain. Procedure done by Dr. Mussman but diagnosis was by Dr. Jackson. After visiting with Dr. Urbanek for his 6 month visit, with no improvement in the pain, he recommended a repeat treatment. Which we are not. Ultimately, told the office manager that we're not going to sink in any more money into these experimental procedures. There is more to the story than what I shared above from a detail perspective, but in conclusion: 1. All 3 of us, at different ages, pain and activity levels are thoroughly disappointed with the outcome. 2. It is expensive procedures since it is not approved by insurance. In the thousands type. 3. We happen to have 3 different doctor interactions even under the same clinic with somewhat different opinions/diagnosis/recommendations. 4. Clinic staff were nice and helpful. Dr. Jackson could have benefited from better bedside manner, but I question his competency more. 5. I am NOT saying that this clinic is intentionally deceiving people or practicing false advertisement. I think some people are receiving benefits and experiencing real pain relief. There is just not enough clinical data YET to find the right patterns for the right scenarios. At the end of the day, I'm simply sharing our experiences and leaving it up to you to make your own decisions."
"My daughter had a platelet procedure for a torn hip labrum and she was extremely anxious. Doctor Urbanek made her feel very much at ease and called to check on her later that evening. He gave me his cell phone number and was very responsive when I had a concern the next day. She is still healing but is 2 weeks out and nearly pain free and back to normal day to day activity. Still working up to full high intensity activity but prior to the procedure she was living with some level of pain continuously. We are very thankful for Regenexx."
"I was scheduled for a knee replacement (using a custom knee) in February 2019. I am a tennis player and have had two previous meniscus surgeries and things had reached the point where I could no longer play at all. Two weeks before the surgery, I decided to start with a safe and more conservative approach using my stem cells extracted from my bone marrow. I reviewed all of the research on this procedure and while large phase 3 trials are currently lacking, the phase 1/2 trials showed consistent positive results with very low risks. There were two places near me that did the procedure I wanted, the Mayo Clinic in Rochester and Regenexx in various locations near me. I actually talked to the head of the program at Mayo and was frankly not impressed with their approach. When I contacted Regenexx, it was clear that they were very research focused, which (as a researcher myself), I really liked. They were also very clear about post-procedure guidelines for resuming activities versus Mayo's "don't overdo it" approach. I chose to have this done at Regenexx Des Moines in part because of Dr. Jackson's reputation but also because I have relatives in Des Moines. The night after the procedure is intense and you really should be with someone. From the moment I entered the clinic, I was impressed by the professionalism of the staff and also the condition of the clinic. Everything was done carefully and explained constantly, which I greatly appreciated. Dr. Jackson was excellent to work with and explained exactly what he was doing step by step. I could not have had a better experience there. So it is now one year later. I started taking lessons in late October and resumed full play in November. I wear an offload knee brace when playing tennis, as recommended, as it is somewhat protective. Everything was fine until the pandemic hit and all the tennis courts closed in March! I have almost no knee pain at this point even though I exercise intensely on an elliptical machine every day. Once I can start playing again, I will start to gradually try playing without the brace, although it really doesn't restrict my play in any case. Bottom line: I highly recommend Dr. Jackson and the staff at the Des Moines Regenexx location. I can't comment on any of their specific offerings other than for knee OA, but so far, it appears that I have completely met my goal of being able to play tennis with little or no knee pain without having to have a knee replacement!"
