"This place should absolutely be shut down after I was left concerned about the state of the entire Methodist system. The people who work here are kind and that’s about it. That’s about the only positive I found out of my one and only appointment here. I knew I should’ve canceled when the scheduling of my appointment turned into a chore and was given a list of disclosures regarding having an appointment. And not just the basic showing up 15 mins early for check in since I’m a new patient. Straight up, if you do this or this, we’ll never see you again and if you take a normal medication, we won’t see you. Way to make a first impression. Once I was finally in the facility, check in was fine until the lady helping me couldn’t comprehend how my gender could be labeled as “undifferentiated” instead of male or female. It’s not her place to question, and if that answer was marked by mistake, then that can be taken up with my doctor, not with clerical staff who has no business questioning my gender. And there was no discretion in her “clarification.” Multiple patients heard this line of questioning and found out my gender identity doesn’t exactly align with my biological sex, which put me at risk for violence from others. Once I was finally with a doctor, Karen Joyce, I thought it’d be smooth sailing because her kindness made me comfortable. But discomfort immediately set in when discussing my medication list. I’ll admit it’s a little extensive for someone my age, however, each prescription was deemed completely necessary by my previous providers. After a single glance at the size of my medication list, Dr. Karen Joyce literally said “I see you have issues.” In what world is that appropriate to say to a patient? And she went on to question the quality and credentials of my previous physicians, who I believe are the reason I’m even living. Dr. Joyce would continue to say that I’ve been prescribed some “hardcore substances” as if I’ve been pushing for pills. I told her from the get go that I would like to be weaned off of some meds because I believe I’m healthier than I was when I was initially placed on them. To that, she looked me up and down and said “Really? You don’t look like it.” I don’t know how I had the strength to not say anything or walk out, but I was in total shock. I wasn’t even referring to my medication that has a direct correlation to my weight, which she was obviously referring to. I clarified that I meant my antidepressants, and she scoffed and told me she wouldn’t even renew some of them because she doesn’t agree. What’s there not to agree with? They help keep me alive and well. The cherry on top of it all was when I disclosed that I use a form of contraception. This seemed to be a total shock to Dr. Joyce, who knew I was in a relationship that would not result in any pregnancy. She questioned who would give me birth control when it’s not necessary. At this point, I had explained all of my diagnoses, which would easily justify my use of birth control. But apparently birth control is only to prevent pregnancy in her mind. The fact I had to explain this to someone that’s a “medical professional” is absurd. And she even pushed back on me once I explained the purpose of the birth control I use. I don’t know how anyone in their right mind could trust this facility with their medical care, as I’m sure the receptionist and doctor I dealt with aren’t the only two bad apples. My privacy was not respected and neither was I as a patient with multiple medical diagnoses. By the end of my appointment, I was confident I had more medical knowledge than my “doctor.” I would strongly advise against making an appointment at this establishment. UPDATE 10 days later: the clinic “tried” reaching out after I made several phone calls and messages and there has been no conversation about my experience. The hoops I have tried jumping through are very much indicative of the type of organization this place is. Please avoid at all costs."
"Wow! I have never experienced such a rude appointment scheduler. I called to find out if they were accepting new patients and asked if they provided primary care services. The receptionist very rudely said "We are INTERNAL MED". Yes, internal medicine provides primary care services to adults. But, I guess not there. I would rather drive an hour and a half to my previous provider than deal with a receptionist who can't even answer basic questions with professionalism and respect."
"I moved from Lincoln Nebraska, and needed a main care Doctor for my many health needs. So I found they were advertising that they were accepting New patients and was very close to my home. So I called and before I could tell her anything about my situation, she rudely started telling me the type of patients they would accept, including alot of Most common medications that were prescribed for sleep or pain. Never been on a pain medication and only got a sleep once, and doesn't even work. But turned down for New patient. And have called to leave me many messages and you make sure to not show up for the boyu oked appointmen. If you really need a Doctor, forget about this place, they only help who they want."
