"I first played Southwoods as a 9-hole course, at the start of the pandemic. The course had its charm then, but the upkeep wasn't there. It was always sort of a wildcard course. This 18-hole layout update is something else. You can tell a ton of thought and work went into it. The layout (at the time of this review) makes sense. Directional arrows in the baskets are a nice touch. Latest setup is the best yet, and hole 18 at 500-foot range is much more manageable. I hope they keep that standard versus 800+ foot layout. The course is well maintained. This is easily a top 5 Central Iowa course as long as it stays that way. Pro-tip: Wear good shoes, pants, and bring some water with you. And maybe a few expendable discs. Be prepared and you'll have a good time. Also: If you're new to disc golf, I'd recommend getting some rounds in at other fun and less challenging courses before you attempt Southwoods to fully appreciate it. All in all: The new Southwoods is a great addition to the Des Moines area disc golf scene. Cheers!"

"A great set up disc golf course. About 75% were in the wooded areas and challenging to very challenging. I love the hole #10, 13, and 18 with 844 feet long down hill. Defubitely this course is for intermediately to advance player. A must use on precise fore hand and back hand for each hole to get you through a good round of disc golf. I love the up hills, down hlls, woods, scenary, and creek and all these obstacles. Overall a great course with a lot of diffult holes."

"I've played the newly renovated disc golf course there a couple of times now and it is a lot of fun. Very challenging with a lot of elevation changes. Watch out for poison ivy or whatever it is that gives you a rash. Pants are recommended if you're like me and don't have an accurate drive haha."
