"Today, I brought my cousin to hike towards the falls. The trail was littered with fallen branches and burned logs from the Caldor fire two years earlier. We went off course four times due to the debris throwing us off the main trail. Second time we literally climbed a steep cliff on the left side, thinking its part of the trail. We managed to get down through side-stepping granite rock. By following Pyramid creek, we reached the highest point where the trail ends at the falls. It was breathtaking. Those falls really packed a punch. My cousin and I had lunch on a slope while looking at the changed landscape around the creek. Wished I've gone years earlier if it weren't for those fires. If you want you hike to horsetail falls, just follow the creek. The trail appears, then disappears as you go up. Follow the same route that other hikers walk so you don't go off trail. The forest service should rehabilitate pyramid creek trail with better signage and trail maintenance. Thankfully, the hike towards the falls was enjoyable."
"Came here in mid-june of 2023 and these Falls were absolutely spectacular. Mind-blowing amounts of water gushing and cascading through this steep, long and narrow gorge. I'm sure the water flow isn't nearly as strong before and after the snow melt so you should try and time it DURING the peak snow melt to see the best waterfalls. It's about a 1 to 1.5 hour hike from the Pyramid Creek parking area down on highway 50 and of course it's all uphill and very steep so bring lots of water and sunscreen."
