"Beautiful California River access. I don't recommend going alone. Felt like I was being watched. There may have been a cougar in the area. The fishing was nice, but couldn't find any big trout."
"The sheriff and parks service make life safety rescues at this location every year. The hike in and out is long and steep. Not a kid friendly place the road is not maintained. Many other places to go that are easier to get to, much safer and just as beautiful in the area."
"Very hard hike down to the river, so make sure to bring enough food and water. Other than that, it's all about how far you wanna jump rocks. Even with a whole day of trailing down the river, it felt endless. A truly beautiful experience, and a great teamwork exercise. (Here's a cool black widow i saw there at night)"
"Very beautiful pools but the water can be cold so I usually like to go when the weather is in the 90s+. There's no reception. Pack extra water, snacks/lunch, hat, sunglasses, and deet (for when you leave), and freeze some water bottles as well to keep your food and yourself cool. The dirt/gravel road is really washed out in some sections. I recommend a high-ground-clearance vehicle."
"I marked this as a 1 Star because those are the only reviews people read. VERY LONG AND HOT HIKE. It most likely isn't worth the trip for young families or people that are just curious about the spot. The old road to the original trailhead is closed. You can still park halfway down the old road where the FS has created a new trailhead. The hike is still about 2/2.5 miles down to the bottom and then 2/2.5 miles back to the top. Very few portions of the trail are in the shade and the canyon gets VERY HOT! Take as much water as you can and plan for no cell service on the trail. If there is an emergency, it usually takes emergency services an hour or more just to get down into the canyon. The spot is beautiful, but plan accordingly."
