Reviews of Meiss Meadow
"Quiet, beautiful place. Great place to stop, take a break, and listen to the wind through the trees, see where the Upper Truckee River begins (a small stream at this point), or just enjoy it on your way to another destination. It can be accessed via trails from either Hwy 88 or 89. I came in from the one (PCT) off of 88. The meadow sits in a bowl/canyon. Lots of shade and wildflowers. The fourth week of August, 2023, there were also snow fields still clinging to the upper sections of the mountains around the area. Gets cool in the evenings, even in summer, and cold in the winter. Elevation is about 8,200.' The trail I used starts at about 8,600,' ascends to the top of the tree line around 9,300,' then down to the meadow. Trail is well-marked and easy to follow. The higher section is devoid of shade. Take a hat or sun screen. If you're not accustomed to the altitude, allot more time than you would for the same distance at sea level. *****There are no fees if you park off 89. This route is a few miles longer round-trip. There is a $5 day use fee (self-registration) at the lot on 88 from June 1 -October 31. From Nov 1 - May 30 you have to have a winter snow-park permit (they can be purchased online or from certain vendors on your way up - check online and call them prior to insure they still have them) to park. I have seen vehicles cited for not having snow-park permits."

"In July, wonderful display of wildflowers"
