About the Business
Located at 746 Kohou Street in Honolulu, Hawaii, the Kakaako Boxing Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been serving the community since 1932. Founded by Yonoichi “Yono” Kitagawa, the club was originally established for the residents of the fishing villages of Kaka’ako. Today, Kaka'ako Boxing Club is the oldest boxing club in the nation and continues to provide a safe and positive training environment for youth and young adults.
In 1980, the club was reorganized by Masa and George Nakaoka to focus on serving the youth and young adults of the Kalihi area. Over the past century, Kaka’ako Boxing Club has become an institution in Honolulu, dedicated to mentoring underserved and at-risk individuals through the sport of boxing. The club's mission is to help develop confidence, coordination, healthy habits, and life skills in its members.
Kaka'ako Boxing Club offers coaching, facilities for training, and opportunities for athletes to compete in local, inter-island, and national events. The club prides itself on its welcoming atmosphere, where members of all backgrounds come together to support each other and share a love for boxing and personal growth.
Many athletes who have trained at Kaka’ako Boxing Club have gone on to achieve national and world rankings in both amateur and professional boxing. Additionally, former members have found success in various industries such as healthcare, information technology, construction, food and beverage, and government.
