Reviews of Kohanaiki Beach Park
"Camping review For camping, this place is not too bad. The camping area seems to be on all the lenght of the beach so this leaves you with plenty of choice if you want more privacy. People there were not too loud during our stay which is nice for a good sleep. The gate closing at 9:00 pm is a plus since you can do an evening activity and come back. There are public showers outside but these are to rinse you off when you go in the sea so you are exposed when you want to clean yourself with soap. There should be a sink where you can wash your dishes as found in other campings on the island. There are toilets in the main building but also lots of (not so clean) portable toilets along the beach."
"A private feeling beach near a resort. You'll pass through the first part of the resort but there's no need to go through any gate or speak to any attendant. Just follow the signs. When you come down the access road the left side is more sandy and for swimming and the right side is more rocky and reef. I visited the right side. You can take your car down the dirt and gravel road to park right alongside the beach. It was fine for me to do in my two-wheel drive vehicle. I was able to park maybe a quarter mile down in some shade. There are some trees and it's a nice place to hammock. There are a few porta pots along the beach access dirt road. I saw at least four whales in an hour. It's very quiet and feels secluded, save the occasional departing flight."
"Surf was too high to get a true feel for the place. Smell of portapotty was strong enough to reach the beach. Still pretty, but recommend Kaloko Honokohau if you're just killing time until the airport as we were."
"Great public beach to visit in the Kailua-Kona area on the Big Island. There's free parking spots & ample room on the beach to set up a tent and relax. You can also go surfing here."
"Best camping ever. Sunset is gorgeous, sunrise too. Easy to find a quiet and secluded spot. Security is on point: permits are checked and gates are closed during the night. You can literally camp on the beach sand (tip: use lava rocks to secure your tent). Make sure you book a permit ahead of time, it's almost always fully booked!"
