"Hiking sandals, tennis shoes - something you don’t mind getting muddy. Flip flops are not appropriate. Often rains with no warning - makes trail slippery. Awesome banyan tree, bamboo forest, several waterfalls. Mostly shady."
"One of the reasons we ventured along the Road to Hana was to venture along the Pipiwai trail. It did not disappoint; several different environments to hike through, a set of waterfalls and a good workout as you ascend toward the final payoff. Sucks that you can't get too close to the Waimoku falls but the hike itself is worth it. Can get a tad slippery with some water, for some odd reason the choice of boardwalk wood is a slick near plywood material. Enjoy the gliding as you attempt to maintain upright status on this stuff."
"The trailhead we followed was located from the parking lot at the Haleakalā National Park - Kīpahulu entrance. The grassy area to the left after you enter, there was a small sign for a trail. It takes you through this grassy area and then back across the street to begin to the trail."
"Amazing trail through bamboo forests to the amazing falls! Nothing less of a magical place! The road to get to the park is brutal though! A bumpy road towards the end, very narrow that requires oncoming traffic to yield, and sometimes some folks who pass that road on regular basis do not yield to you! Needs patience and skills! Also, sometimes you would get some unfriendly gestures from some local people on the road to get there, but oh well! It is a public road to a national park, we all have the rights to use the road and the park!"
"Not an easy or beginner trail, but not extremely difficult either. $30 per vehicle to get in. Has decent restrooms and then onto the trail. It's roughly 2 miles to the end of the trail with dirt trails, root steps, stone steps, and walk boards. A few bridges thrown in for good measure and cross a shallow waterway. (Well, shallow when we went). There's a beautiful banyan tree and bamboo forrest along the way. Once you arrive to the end, there's a sign that says to stop there. And a great photo opportunity. However, if you take a little turn to your right (as facing the sign) and you can see the waterway. Seems some people walked about 200-300 yards to base of the waterfall. I understand it's a gorgeous view..."
