"Trail starts out going along the beach, then you have a choice to stay along the water and head to the marine light or go through the lava field to a beach. The lava field is a rough but flat hike. After 2.5 miles you will be rewarded with an end at a secluded bay with a beach. You feel like you're hiking in Mars as you make your way across the lava field. It's worth a quick day hike, but bring good shoes for the lava field. Get to the parking lot early, or it will be full."
"The drive was nice. The last 10 minutes or so was on a paved but bumpy road which eventually turned into an unpaved bumpy road. The road was also narrow with some pull-out locations along the way. Often only one vehicle could go in one direction. The walk was nice. There are plenty of volcanic rocks visible along the way and a number of places to take in the scenery. There is not a lot of shade so pack a hat and water just in case."
"This is a nice trail to be able to see two waterfalls. The walk down isn’t too dangerous but heading down to the waterfall is a little steep. Wear mosquito spray. The entrance to the trail is difficult to find located before a light post. You park down the street and there houses to the right. I uploaded a photo given that we cut through the trees to enter and found the entrance to the trail on our way back."
"Nice walk over lava trails and coral beaches. Easy for families. Beautiful natural Maui. Encountered goats along the path and turned back. Mom and dad on either side of the trail with babies in the path. Don't know how the trail ends, but what we saw was nice. You need closed toed shoes or a first aid kit. The lava and coral are sharp. Just do it, saw a handful of "hearty souls" limping out bleeding. Oh, and there are some fantastic thorns, one of which went through my son's sneaker. Having some fun in the photo, but without the thick sole, he would have been hurting."
"Absolutely beautiful hike. The hike is tough mostly as your on lava rocks the entire trail. It’s worth every step. Make sure to wear thick protective bottomed shoes. When we went it was cool and over cast so weather was perfect. Parking is limited. Make sure to bring a camera or have your phone charged up. The views Are pretty special and the natural arch formations in the rocks from the waves were a 10. The only reason I gave it 5 stars was its pretty risky so just be aware and keeps your eyes on the ground when walking so you don’t eat the lava rocks"
