Reviews
"Beautiful large waves, multiple trail paths, rocky volcanic beaches and sand dunes. Enjoy a surreal experience like you are in a foreign land. Enjoy a walk with less foot traffic this is the place for you. Lighthouse at the point. Since it’s quite remote, a car is necessary for access. Parking on site but it’s uneven unpaved area. There is bathrooms here but plenty of local beaches with bathrooms before reaching here. One of the less explored area in Oahu with intact natural beauty."
"The kaena point trail is a dramatic 2.7 mile one-way hike that leads you through a huge paved road flanked by lush green mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. It's the perfect harmony of both worlds where the views are mesmerizing. Great part about the trail is that it was mostly empty and we had ample time to just walk in and out of main road into outlets near the ocean. Even though it's a relatively easy hike, the full loop of 5.5 miles is exhausting due to the absence of shade and a change in the terrain that goes from road to asphalt to stones and finally sand dunes. Best protected sand dunes with wildlife habitat in close proximity. Please carry water and wear either hiking or running shoes. This is a must go for fit individuals if they want to see the real Hawaii and watch the ocean unimpeded and the tall mountain ranges that rose from the ocean."
"This is probably my favorite place on Oahu. It is so beautiful the entire walk and majestic and peaceful. It ends at an albatross sanctuary and they are flying overhead while others are in their nests and you get to walk through guided paths all around it. Fantastic! And then, if you're lucky, you may see seals sleeping on the rocks! Just a very fun and pleasant outing! Don't miss it!"
"Be totally sure you have the right footwear to go on this hike. Though not much elevation gain, the terrain is very rocky at points and then sandy at others. There is not a shady spot for practically the entire hike, which is long. However— the end of the hike is amazing. Along with the fantastic coastal shoreline hiking throughout, the waves crashing at the end of the trail are superb. We saw tons of nesting Albatross, which was amazing plus a few seals (3) which was what we were hoping for. Hats, water, sunscreen and appropriate footwear will get you there properly. :)"
"Best hike on island in my opinion! You have the mountains to your left and the ocean to your right. You get all the way to the end and there's a gate where you can enter the albatross sanctuary! When you go all the way past the sanctuary, you are at the further point of the island where you can see the sun set right in front of you. You can also see seals here too, but DO NOT APPROACH. Let them be and admire from afar. Bring flash lights or make sure your phones charged if planning to see sunset so you can walk back and see where you're stepping."
