About the Business

HNL Tool Library is Hawaii's first and only nonprofit tool-sharing community located at 200 Keawe Street in Honolulu. Similar to a traditional library, but with tools instead of books, we offer affordable monthly or annual memberships that provide access to a wide range of tools for renters, homeowners, DIY enthusiasts, makers, and craftspeople.
Our online inventory is updated in real time, allowing you to view available tools and make reservations. In addition to tool rentals, we offer public workshops and private classes on various DIY skills, including individual tool use and creating projects like coasters, planters, and cutting boards.
Classes range from $35 to $75 per person, and we also offer workshops on DIY home repair, picture hanging, laser engraving, and more. Basic consumables are provided for free, while new and specialty items are available for a small fee. Members can keep tools for one week, with the option to renew for a second week if no one else has reserved them.
Located inside Re-use Hawaii, we also offer after-hours drop off for returned tools. Normal wear and tear is covered by membership fees, but members may be responsible for replacement costs if a tool is broken due to abuse, misuse, or negligence.
As a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we rely on contributions of time, money, or tools to promote the power of sharing on O‘ahu. All contributions are tax-deductible. Stay updated on new workshops and tools by following us on social media.
Reviews
"Stan was amazing and this place is awesome. Tools were in great working condition and provides a valuable community service. Way to identify and fill this gap Ben! See you for my next project! Mahalo so much to all the volunteers!"
"This place is great! Especially here in HI, who has room to store a ton of tools that you may only use once or twice. I tell all my friends to check out the tool library. The only down side their limited hours, but the value received is well worth the inconvenience."
"Convenient, economical & friendly. Moving to the front of ReUse Hawaii spotlights the HNL Tool Library. Being in the front also emanates a more breezy & open-air atmosphere. Being not as squeezed in, creates an environment of being able to approach the staff. My personal experience has been a very professional & pleasant one. The ‘Tooligans’ are always polite & helpful. They will share advice to lay people on how best to accomplish their projects. As such, the tool are in good repair with the blades, sandpaper & other consumable are in good shape. If a part needs replacing, they are most accommodating. I believe most if not all of the members respect the return due date of the borrowed item."
"This is such a cool service. I live in a small apartment and it's just not practical to own a bunch of tools right now. HNL Tool Library gives me access to all the tools I need for renovations and other stupid projects I take on. The cost of membership is about what I would have paid for a single tool but instead I get to use all of them."
"Yes! Go there! Become a member! It's amazing! So affordable. Great selection. Helps be part of the community instead of "supporting" big box stores all the time. Super helpful for our renovation project, especially since we didn't want to buy a bunch of specialty tools that we'll never use again, like for re-doing our tile backsplash, etc, etc... Their online inventory is also really really awesome, you can check out, in real time, what they've got available before you head over there. It's also great that they're in the Re-use Hawaii building, so there's all sorts of materials and project inspiration!"
