"I've had two long layovers at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, and I've had to say the secured areas by the gate are fairly standard. But the area outside the tsa check point is very outdated. They force travelers to sleep outside in a "roped" off area between the hours of 11pm and 5am. You're exposed to the open air with little coverage. You better pray it doesn't rain. My 2nd disappointment bout this airport is the security of the USDA check points. Which can be bypassed if you walk to the far end of the terminal at the international desks and simply walk back without having to put your bag thru an x-ray. Lastly, unlike other international airports, there is no cleaning done to any of the chairs or resting places in the baggage claim on regular basis unless there is a reason like a large fluid spill. Overall, I give this airport a 2/5 it has a lot of history and beauty, but has neglected the sanitary side of the traveler experience."
"HNL Airport Cultural Gardens is clean and neat. Taking a break here before my flight."
"I.A.S.S. Lounge is one of the pathetic lounges. Just enjoy the outside seats and sun for free. They accept almost every pass. They do not serve food or alcohol. They only serve drinks in a can, coffee or tea. They do not allow outside food or drink. No restrooms. Wi-Fi is only for messaging. I don't spend money on a glorified waiting room when you can get better freedom any where else for free."
"This place is huge. So far Everytime I've been through this place I've had to walk from one end to the other. There are a smattering of open storefronts if you're into shopping at an airport, but more than half are shuttered. If you have a departure at gate G, get food before you get there or you'll be walking back towards terminal 1 to find food. They do have a beautiful garden at gate F and I recommend visiting it if you find yourself with time."
"A really nice area to sit outside and take in some air before boarding your flight. We had some time to spare before boarding, so we took our coffees outside and enjoyed the greenery and birds (ducks, doves, bulbul). It's a unique aspect of this airport that many people perhaps don't know about or appreciate. So, if you have time, take a step outside!"
