Reviews of Mt. Whitney Fish Hatchery at Oak Creek
"A beautiful establishment that is a must see for travelers of the 395. Prior to a catastrophic rain storm that damaged the main holding tanks, this was the epicenter for breeding trout which was to be stocked throughout the Eastern Sierras and greater California. Hosted by an all volunteer staff of the towns of INYO County, the hours of operation vary ... so call ahead and don't be disappointed. Take the time and visit history at this wonderful State landmark."
"Although it's no longer an active fish hatchery, you can still explore the grounds and feed the fish in the large pond out front. Nice picnic area, and their gift shop is open Fri-Sun."
"This was such a beautiful building and setting! The kids had a blast feeding the trout in the pond out front, and the staff working there were very friendly and informative. I would definitely stop here again!"
"We visited the grounds. It was closed so we couldn’t go inside the hatchery. It was a nice stop to walk around and enjoy the views. The building was beautiful. We also enjoyed feeding the ducks. There’s a food machine for a quarter you can get a handful to feed the ducks."
"Small but pretty place with interesting old building. Fun to feed the ducks (25 cents per handful, from a vending machine). The store was closed because of lack of volunteers to keep it open. Clean restrooms."
