Sloan Canyon Visitor Contact Station
About the Business
The Sloan Canyon Visitor Contact Station is located at 2998 Nawghaw Poa Road in Henderson, Nevada, United States. This institution serves as a travel agency for visitors looking to explore the Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area. Established by Congress in November 2002, the conservation area spans over 48,438 acres and is home to the Sloan Canyon Petroglyph Site, which features more than 300 rock writing panels dating back to native cultures from the Archaic to historic eras. The area also includes the 14,790-acre North McCullough Wilderness, known for its unique natural resources and volcanic origins.
Visitors can enjoy the scenic and geologic features of the Sloan Canyon NCA, as well as participate in diverse recreational activities. The institution provides information on regulations, permits, and safety tips for exploring the area, including restrictions on commercial filming and photography. Visitors can also join guided hikes led by BLM Interpretive Rangers to learn more about the cultural, biological, and geological resources of the conservation area.
The Sloan Canyon Visitor Contact Station is open to visitors during specific hours throughout the year, with varying schedules for different seasons and holidays. The institution encourages visitors to plan ahead, stay hydrated, and be aware of potential hazards while exploring the public lands. Volunteers play a crucial role in caring for the natural and cultural resources of the area, and there are opportunities for individuals, families, and groups to get involved. Whether you're interested in hiking, photography, or simply enjoying the outdoors, the Sloan Canyon Visitor Contact Station is a valuable resource for anyone looking to experience the beauty and history of southern Nevada's Mojave Desert.

"Excellent trails. Beautiful scenery and can walk for almost as long as you want. Side trails are fun to explore."
"Love biking to the visitor center. The hill is challenging and ride downhill is exhilarating. No bikes allowed on trails tho. The trails are fabulous. Bring lots of water!"
"Weave through neighborhoods to get to the trailhead. Gravel parking lot with port-o-potties. We took the Petroglyph Trail. A flat mile leads to a gravel wash. At the junction, we went right (counter clockwise) which was a good choice in hindsight because the petroglyphs became increasingly impressive as the hike went. After taking the junction, we watched the rocky hillsides for bighorn sheep but saw none. The petroglyphs were spectacular - very easy to find and extremely clear. A fascinating array of cactus species and plant species dotted the rocky landscape. The canyon narrowed and continued to offer great opportunities to see bighorn (though we didn't see any)."
"Trail is great with lots of petroglyphs, just expect a mile in soft gravel to get to them. Totally worth it. Make a left when you get to the fork in the trail. You see the petroglyphs first and get to walk down the rocky hillside with a view on the 2nd half of the loop."
