"After reading the company owner's response, would just like to state that 1) The bear wires were absolutely never discussed to us over the phone so that is a flat out lie 2) While I admit we were quite frustrated with them over the phone due to the situation we were put in and the the lack of compassion, there was absolutely no profanity used or name-calling - so that is another lie and 3) It is actually insulting that still, instead of simply taking responsibility of the situation, the owner is now trying to accuse us of not understanding how to use the faucets when we were able to use them just fine for the first 2 days before the hot water broke. Also on the phone they had stated the plumbers did in fact show up after we checked out and were able to fix the issue before the next group of renters arrived. _______________________________________ I probably should have read the other negative reviews before booking with Tahoe Rental Company, as I can now see a theme with other previous renters that the property management is just trying to make the most money they can (I assume to keep the owners happy) and lacks compassion when dealing with renter-related issues. We rented a house in North Lake Tahoe with them recently for the weekend: 1) We were not given any checkin instructions beforehand and finally had to reach out and call the management company 45 minutes before our arrival as we were afraid we would not be able to access the property if we lost signal on the road there. 2) There were live electrical wires (which can shock you) up when we arrived to the property, in front of every entrance, which seemed quite dangerous especially considering we had a pet and child with us. There was nothing in the original listing for the house when we booked it that mentioned this. We had to deactivate the system and remove the wires ourselves before we could enter the property. 3) The worst part was that the house had NO HOT WATER for a full day and night and we had to attempt to shower and wash dishes in icy cold water in the winter. Tahoe Rental Company said they called several plumbers and were unable to get anyone out that night to fix the hot water. While we understand that it was difficult to find a plumber last minute, it should still be the responsibility of the property management to fix this or provide a solution as in the state of California, having no hot water is considered an inhabitable situation. There was no empathy to our situation and they refused to work with us afterwards to compensate us for this. Speaking with them has been extremely frustrating as they basically just provide excuses and try to blame us instead. For example they said: A) It was our fault for not notifying them sooner of the hot water issue (We had notified them at around 7pm that night since we were out skiing during the day.) B) The fact that we did not sound urgent or upset enough when we did notify them, and the fact that we were checking out the next day, indicated to them that it was not a big issue. (I had assumed the fact there was no hot water was urgent enough and didn't realize we needed to express this in a more urgent way to have them take it seriously or take responsibility.) C) On top of that, after attempting to complain to management immediately the day after we checked out that the hot water was never fixed (nobody picked up the phone that morning), and being told the next day there was no manager available, we finally were able to speak with someone on the 3rd day who had the nerve to ask "why we had waited so long after checking out to complain to them". The lady then said there was nothing they could do for us since per their notes they did their job by attempting to call some plumbers (even though none of the ones they called were able to come out until the following day after our check-out time). I travel a ton and have rented with many landlords and management companies before and have never felt so frustrated in dealing with a rental company that had such a lack of compassion."
"Thank you Tahoe Rental Company. We enjoyed staying in this amazing home during our winter vacation. The home was large, clean, and a great space to accommodate our families and friends. The home is exactly as pictured. The House is in great condition, open communal area of the kitchen, living & dining room for the whole family to congregate in, bedrooms are all spacious. The driveway is large enough to accommodate all our cars. Tahoe Rental Company had great communication. I would stay again & recommend it!"

The review of the home we rented is below. "We really appreciated staying in this beautiful and cozy home, very well situated and not a far drive from skiing at Palisades. Everything was terrific and very comfortable. This home is well appointed and there was plenty of space for our family of five. It was a welcoming place to return to after our days of skiing. Our young adults loved the pool table and sauna. Views of the pines were spectacular from the many windows, especially after the snow storm. We would recommend this home to any of our friends!""
"The home we rented was beautiful and spacious, with lots of beds. We were able to rent it last minute. Cleanliness and Hygiene: 2 pillow cases dirty, a dirty sock (not ours) under the sheets, an open bottle of water next to the bed in the main bedroom upon checkin, cobweb on the walls, a pan with used oil in the oven, human nail between coach cushions, filthy mattress cover after sheets are stripped Maintenance issues: tv remote not working with the TV Essentials: only two pans in the kitchen, both in unusable condition, almost empty plastic wrap and foil, 1.5 rolls of toilet paper and 2 bath towels per bathroom for a home with 12 beds, zero shower supplies Trash: if bear box is overflowing after the checkout (even if others used up most of it) you get charged Checkout time: unreasonable at 10am We messaged the Tahoe Rental a few times and they brought 2 rolls of toilet paper, 2 pans, aluminum foil and plastic wrap. They asked if we wanted cleaning crew to re-clean but we were already unpacked at that point and did not want to be disturbed"
"I am fully aware of this vacation rentals cancellation and refund policy as I read and signed this before completing my booking. However, little bit of human touch, consideration and empathy would have gone a far way… I basically gathered our savings from the whole family to put this once in a lifetime trip together (Dec 25-Dec29). We were so excited and thrilled to go to this trip and get together with all the family under one roof after so many years of being apart. Last minute, my father had a brain aneurysm and was hospitalized in ICU with urgent need of brain surgery. I reached out to them informing them of the matters and even providing them with the proof of letter from the hospitals ICU team. The response was, if we can manage to put the rental back in the market and get it rented for the same exact date, then and only then, we MIGHT be able to provide you with the cleaning fee and taxes portion. I appreciate the consideration, however, that’s more of an insult than anything during a time like this with what we’re going through. This rental was over $5,600 and I mean it when I say we had to use our family savings to do this once in a lifetime trip at this beautiful cabin. Having our refund back would allow us to cover just a small portion, from a large ongoing, medical bill for my dad’s procedures. However, sadly even with proof that this is not just an excuse to get out of this reservation, this company rather chose profit over human dignity. I simply left this review here for anyone who’s planning to book with this company to know that they truly do follow through with their policies. Doesn’t matter if your travel plans change because of a dead or ill relative, they want their money and don’t care what you’re going through. If that means anything to you, do think twice before you book with them and do for sure get insurance. We didn’t because I never expected my dad to have such a life threatening illness. Even then, most other hosts I have dealt with in the past take care of you with no hesitation when you’re going through such hard times like this. I’m sure the owner of our rental doesn’t even know about this situation, it’s this Tahoe rental company that’s making the decision on their behalf."
