Kaʻena Point Trail Parking Farrington Highway, Waialua, HI 96791
About the Business
Kaʻena Point Trail Parking is located at Farrington Highway, Waialua, Hawaii, United States. This parking area serves as the starting point for the trail to Ka‘ena Point Natural Area Reserve, a remote and scenic protected area on the westernmost point of O‘ahu. The trail follows an old railroad bed and former dirt road, offering stunning views of the coastline, native plants, seabirds, and even whales during the winter months.
Before visiting the park, it is recommended to monitor local surf and weather reports. The weather is typically sunny and hot, with windy conditions. Visitors are advised to bring a hat, sunscreen, and plenty of water. The hike to Ka‘ena Point can take 1 to 3 hours, depending on your pace.
There are two routes to reach Ka‘ena Point from either the Wai‘anae side or the Mokule‘ia side. Both routes involve a 2.5-mile hike along a dirt roadway, with different landscapes and points of interest along the way. Visitors are reminded to stay on established paths, avoid damaging native flora, and watch for nesting seabirds.
Additionally, visitors are encouraged to help protect the marine environment by using the Marine Debris Drop-off Stations located along the coastal roads and trails. Marine debris poses a threat to marine life and shorelines, so it is important to properly dispose of any trash found during your visit.
If you are interested in volunteering at the park, you can scan the QR code or register as a volunteer online. Let's work together to protect and preserve Kaʻena Point State Park for future generations. Thank you for mālama (caring for) this special place.

"Had a fantastic walk to the point from here. The North Shore waves were stunning and the nesting albatross were amazing."
"A beautiful place to see the ocean, saw some people fishing. Not a place for swimming, please don’t try. Beautiful hiking trails. The parking lot is a little rough, lots of dips and holes so if you have a car that rides close to the ground like less than maybe a foot off the ground you should be careful."
"Parking is in a very remote area at the end of the physical road. Do not bring any valuables and leave them in the car; they may not be there when you get back. Huge pot holes as the parking area is not paved or very well maintained. On a positive side, very little light pollution for great star gazing and Astro photography. Going alone at night is not the best idea; bring a buddy."
"Beautiful. Limited persons. Reminds me very much of the Santa Cruz mountains between Santa Cruz, CA and Pescadero, CA."
"A super nice hike with tons of parking. Try so see the sunset here, it is so beautiful and waters are so warm. Ensure you have proper close toes shoes, water and a sweater as it might get a little windy. Also I recommend some bug spray and a hat. The walk is really pretty, dramatic views of the ocean and the mountains; you will be walking by the cliffs with amazing views. We also saw albatross and monk seals, who were sun bathing on the rock. A must do activity on the west side of the island. It is more natural and local, away from the busy beaches, and not very touristy."
