"My daughter and I took a trip to Las Vegas for a little vacation and, we stayed in the Strat Hotel. While wandering around the hotel we spotted this tattoo shop up on the second floor. She says “let’s get one!” I’ve been a tattooer for 23 years and I live and work in a tourist town. I tell you this because of two reasons. One, Las Vegas tattoo shops have a certain reputation in the tattoo industry and, two, I know exactly what to expect for quality from a tattoo shop in a tourist corridor. In case you’re wondering, neither are known to be good. So, I make an attempt to stall for a few days hoping that she’ll forget or change her mind. Well…she didn’t. So, I take a deep breath and say “Ok, let’s go”. I’m fine if I end up with a bad tattoo and I’m fairly confident that I can fix whatever she ends up with when we get home. We get there and they have the gum ball machine where “you get what you get” for $100. Of course that’s what she wants to do. I’m REALLY not excited at this point but, ok. She’s my little girl. This is when we meet Robie and Cesar. I get Robie, my daughter gets Cesar. They are both extremely lighthearted professionals. I do NOT bring up the fact that I’ve been a tattoo artist for over two decades. Their customer courtesy and bedside manner were astounding. So, at this point, I’m feeling a little better but, not much. While Robie is stenciling me I peek over at his set-up. Everything looks as it should. He’s got all the stuff wrapped that should be wrapped to prevent cross contamination and I notice that he’s using top of the line machines. They’re the same machines I use so, I know how much he paid for them. This makes me feel even better because now I know he’s not hurting for business. He gets started on my tattoo which had to go up near my armpit because I’m damn near out of room so, I have no clue what’s happening but, I can feel what’s happening. He’s light handed, no jerky motion and solid follow through on every line pull. This is when I say to myself “ok, he knows what he’s doing”. I still haven’t mentioned my background this point and he’s doing a fantastic job with conversation. He’s very much in touch with the customer and he’s keeping the mood very relaxed. It’s probably 30 mins into it before before I mention what I do for a living and the conversation becomes a professional one. I won’t bore you with the specifics in this already too long review but, he’s extremely knowledgeable of his craft. I can tell he’s put some real work into learning tattoos, not just doing tattoos. Cesar and Robie gave my daughter and I the EXACT same experience I strive to give my own customers every single day! Not only did we both leave with two fantastic pieces of art done on the highest level, we left with a memory I won’t soon forget. My hat goes off to both of you gentlemen for a job well done and I'm proud to share my industry with you. If you’re ever traveling through Panama City, FL look me up. I’ll have a chair open for you.
