Reviews of Santa Fe Saloon & Motel
"An absolute MUST STOP if you are road-tripping through Nevada! An amazing little gem of a historic mine-town bar and motel. It's about 4 blocks in from the main highway (closer to the mines, so miners didn't have to walk all the way to Main St for a drink). The street isn't paved, but it's very well maintained so any car can get there without issues. As of March 2024, they're open 2p to 9p. Don't let the sign fool you, the barkeep is an absolute sweetheart. Inside, find a beautiful antique bar, lots of original details, super friendly locals, cheap domestic beer nice and cold, and a wood stove, nice and warm. Out back are about half a dozen motel rooms that are nice, basic, clean, and well priced, arranged around a cool old mine headworks and a Joshua Tree. Excellent sunsets. Across the street is a rusting collection of steam engines, old Ford's, and other neat mining detritus. You might want to call the bar to reserve, they do sell out sometimes. This is an old-school place - you have to call, no apps, no website. Or just drop in the bar and they'll set you up. Note that there's not much open in Goldfield - there's no gas station or grocery store here. Also, the WiFi is not really usable, but I had 5G cell service that worked."
"This is a hidden gem!!!! Lots of cool old stuff to look at!!! Brenda the bartender is so fun!!! Will be back for sure!!!"
"The wife and I stopped in at this place for a couple of days on our way from Washington state to Vegas. We also stayed in the motel out back, and the rooms are nice for the money you pay, which is a lot less than a hundred a night. It is the oldest continuing-to-operate tavern in Nevada. Late in his life, Virgil Earp was a deputy sheriff in Goldfield and he hung out at the Santa Fe occasionally. It is definitely real Wild West stuff and not phony for tourists stuff. It is the REAL DEAL. Watch out non-smokers. Smoking is allowed in the bar. Some caveats: There is no store in Goldfield and no gas stations. I mean ZIP, NADA, NOTHING. So pick up whatever you need before you arrive. Gas, snacks, whatever. And if you want a motel room out back of the bar, CALL THEM ON THE PHONE first. They don't do Hotels dot com or any of that modern stuff. They have a big book where they write in the reservations. The barmaids do it. You call the bar and they put you in the book. Pay when you arrive at the bar. For a good meal, drive the 25 miles north to Tonopah and hit up the casino. (No worries. Highway is flat, speed limit is HIGH, and you'll be there in minutes.) Order the steak dinners for 25 bucks and get the best beef you've probably had in a long time. The casino has a line on some of the absolutely best beef in Nevada. Trust me on this one. All the services and stores and gas are in Tonopah as well. There IS a small cafe in Goldfield that is open spotty hours, but even the locals don't eat there. Coffee maybe. If they are open. Bar is open from 2PM until 10PM seven days a week. No worries. We just kept drinking our pre-purchased Michelob Ultras from our coolers after the bar closed. You can stumble off to your motel room anyway, since it is just out back of the bar. There is a laundry room between them if you need to wash your duds while you are there. While you are in Goldfield, you might want to make a stop at nearby GEMfield, which is a Bureau of Land Management mining claim offering chalcedony gemstone. Hand tools only. You walk in from the parking area. Walk out with your rocks, weigh them on the scale and pay a buck a pound. They take PayPal or just mail them a check."
"One of the coolest bars I've been to. Established in 1905, it's got that great "patina" the one expects from and old bar. It's got a great vibe and the staff and the other customers were friendly. Best of all, IT'S DOG FRIENDLY! Don't pass this place up."
"I'm a Realtor and am helping a lovely lady sell her land in Goldfield. While in Goldfield to take pictures of the land, I decided to explore this historically rich town. I stayed the night at the Santa Fe and was pleasantly surprised. Check In was at the bar area and was easy and prompt. The waitress seemed helpful and friendly. I filled out a check in cheat, she took my payment and off I went with my key. There is a laundry on the premises but I didn't need it. We stayed in Room 8 and I was very happy with the accommodations. The room has 2 queen beds, tv, mini fridge, microwave, bathroom and small closet. The room was nice and warm when we walked in. Beds were very comfy. We brought our own pillows so can't comment on those. Parking was right outside the room. In the morning we walked across the street to the old railroad boneyard. Some amazing stuff in this town! Would definitely stay here again."
