"I have been in an apartment for 3 years and unable to use my balcony because the patio door has not been able to be opened. The floor underneath the patio door and along the wall is rotting. This is causing the patio doors to collapse in the middle leaving gaps along both sides open to the outside. This has been what has been causing it. I had to fill that with bubble wrap and duct tape. We had to have 3 people to lift up the freaking door and move it to be able to put shims on the outside to level the doors a bit once we were able to get out there to keep the patio doors movable. But even then, the screen door was not movable and had to be moved into place in the same manner. And they only want to give me one hundred dollars off November's rent?!?! For the six years before that I lived across the hall. When I moved in I was told it was clean. It was not. The carpets were disgusting but I had to move immediately due to roof damage where I was previously living. Also, the patio door in that apartment has a hole in it where a plate is supposed to go up in the channels. It's about 3 inches long by about a inch wide. I had to duct tape some socks to stick in the hole and then put tape on the outside of it (the current tenant is still dealing with this). I had to deal with that and the freaking high, high electric bills for 6 years before they let me move across a hall to this current apartment and this is how they repay their tenants?!?! Update: my patio door has been replaced. The board underneath was like wet cardboard. The floor is going to have parts replaced after I'm able to move some of my furniture out of the way. This will be a little closer to late spring due to surgeries, etc."
"They truly do not care about their tenants safety or all the crime that happens on their property. Other goldmark offices have understood installing cameras cuts down constant crime. Southgate says the cost is too high.... yet my car has been constantly messed with and I have yet to ever receive a single package I've ever ordered while living at Bridgeport for 9 months. Its ridiculous."
"I lived at the Aspen Ridge apartment building along 33rd ave south. I am not speaking about Goldmark as a whole, as I know there have been countless complaints against them, but I do feel obligated to point out that living in this particular building, with this particular management, was 100% PAINLESS. It was my first time renting from Goldmark and I went into it really worried, but I was pleasantly surprised. They were quick to review my application and approve me, and let me move in about 10 days into the month and prorated my first month rent due to that. Now, I am writing this review 3 years after the fact, so this could have changed, but the rent was VERY reasonable ($550) and it was a NICE apartment! I currently live in the Twin Cities, and my 1 bedroom, 700 sq ft. unit was almost $1200 per month once utilities were added on. I never had a single problem with the management during my tenancy here. In fact, I never had a reason to engage with them, and they never once bothered ME about anything. I ended up breaking my lease a bit early, and they didn't charge me any fee for that if I found someone to take the lease over (which I did, via Facebook Marketplace). It wasn't even a sublet; they actually terminated my lease and the incoming tenant started a new one. Here in the cities, most places don't allow you to sublet, and definitely don't allow you to break the lease unless you pay a fee of $1,500. My move-out ended up being a bit chaotic because a leasing agent contacted me on the weekend asking if I would be able to be totally checked out that coming monday (By that time I had been living in my new place). I didn't have much moved out by that point, and had ALL the cleaning to still do, but I got it done and was checked out that coming monday. They were very impressed that I got the moving and cleaning done on such short notice, and thanked me repeatedly. Besides deducting some money for the obligatory carpet cleaning, I ended up getting EVERY CENT of my deposit back, which I was VERY much not expecting based on everything I had heard/read about Goldmark. I also got most of my rent refunded for the last month I paid it (prorated, of course, up until the date the new tenant took over.) I really hope the same staff work at this property, because if they do, I 100% recommend this property to rent! -Robyn Aune"
"When I emailed Southgate looking for an apartment, Janelle from your office responded by phone in short order! I immediately felt I was in good hands. I was also pleasantly surprised because in these days of technology, personal contact is rare. I am one who values hearing whom I am dealing with. She was on it. I had been emailing multiple apartments in Fargo from my home in Ohio, looking for one at the last minute for a quick-book assignment as a travel nurse. She was both professional and accommodating. More importantly, she offered me the first month free with a reasonable $640 monthly rental contract for six months for a 1-bedroom that is clean, bright and serviceable. This suited my situation perfectly! You also get heating paid for, dishwasher, private garage & outdoor parking space. The office staff is professional, courteous and friendly...of note, Joe & Justin! Goldmark needs to know that these 3 J’s are keepers:) Thank you all."
"Do not like this company at all. They never fix things that are broken and then steal your deposit then "fix" it when you move out placing the blame on you. There is a light in the closet that won't turn on. Bulbs were switched and it still didn't turn on. There is an ancient dishwasher that no longer works and it was rusty and crusty on move in day. The carpets were dirty upon moving in, including a big yellow stain that they refused to clean or replace. Had to be covered up by a couch so that the toddlers wouldn't crawl around and stick there hands in it, and I'm sure they will claim the resident is at fault and take the deposit when they move out. They raise your rent every time your lease is up, by an average of $40, (AND THATS IF you re-sign a 1 year lease!! It's even MORE if you sign a 6 month and EVEN MORE, if you sign a month to month) When my mom lived in a unit with this company, she was on housing and when they raised the rent, it was above the housing limit and my mother was forced to move out into a new apartment. Goldmark would not accommodate. If you have written a bad check they ban you from living with them for 10 years. Yet there are many criminals living in Goldmark buildings as roommates to someone who did get approved and they don't do a thing about it. The amazing part is some of those "criminals" actually SHOULD BE approved to live in the units because everyone makes mistakes. They treat someone with a DUI or a harassment charge the same way they would treat a murderer or a rapist. As far as Goldmark is concerned, if you run a stop sign you should go to the electric chair. If your credit score is not 700 or above then don't even bother looking at a unit with Goldmark. If it is above 700 then you should avoid Goldmark as well because they will jump up and down with joy knowing that they can rob you or your income and make you poor. Goldmark doesn't even deserve the 1 star rating I gave them. They only got it because Google doesn't allow me to put a 1/4 star or an 1/8 star, or a 1/16 star. In realtiy, Goldmark should get a Negative star rating. I beg anyone who reads this to live with ANY OTHER COMPANY....I know that's hard to do though because of the way Goldmark robs people of there money, they are able to own 86% of the rental units in all of North Dakota and Minnesota! Someone should burn Goldmark to the ground. The Goldmark company are the real criminals."
