"Let me start off saying, I am not one to leave reviews, let alone a negative one, but here has been my experience that I feel others should be aware of. At the beginning of 2023 I moved. I bought a brand new enclosed trailer and insured it with American Family. While pulling into my new driveway, I cut too close to a snow bank and crushed in part of the trailer. I called Adam’s office and spoke with his assistant Kelin. We discussed the situation, and whether or not I should make a claim based on the damage. I got a few estimates and called her back to further discuss. She explained to me that if there was less that a $500 payout from American Family it would not show up as a recordable incident. My deductible at the time was $1000. The damages totaled around $1400. I don’t care about the $400, but if I could save $400 why wouldn’t I? She was in agreement. I went through the claim process, and was paid out the $400. This spring, we got some good wind and a fair amount of my shingles were damaged along with a large pine tree that had come down in my yard. This time a contractor stopped by and did an inspection, filed a claim on my behalf only to find out my policy would only replace singular damaged shingles. My roof is older, and I planned on replacing it anyway, so I called in and cancelled the claim. Fast forward to this summer, I bought a boat. As I compared pricing with various insurance companies, I came to find out that my trailer claim showed up when other companies looked up my name. State Farm explained to me that any claim I make, whether it pays or doesn’t, will show up under your name as a claim. This was very unsettling, and I felt mislead. While all of this is occurring, I had the condensate line fail on my furnace. As a result, my basement got wet, my flooring ruined along with some trim and door frames. I called into Adam’s office, and spoke with one of his employees James. I explained what had happened, and asked how I should proceed. He informed me that this sort of thing wouldn’t be covered, and it was due to lack of maintenance. After getting off the phone, he followed up with an email recapping our conversation. I didn’t think much of it, these guys are the experts right? It is what it is. So I demo my basement flooring and damaged items. I have a mechanical contractor out, who determined that the condensate line was not vented properly which caused the failure. As I am getting ready to make repairs, I reach out to Adam directly as I would like to add coverage to my policy to protect myself down the road from this sort of thing. He told me that my policy covered mechanical failure, and he recommended I make a claim. I told him the conversation I had with James, and about the email he had sent me telling me this wasn’t covered. He apologized, and had mentioned that this had happened before with James, and that he is not a claims adjuster and should not be telling people whether or not something would or would not be covered. So I follow Adam’s advice and make a claim. Unfortunately, based on my conversation with James, I had disposed of the flooring and other damaged items. Ultimately, the claim is denied based on lack of evidence. Had I not been mislead originally, I would have left everything alone until an adjuster could take a look. This misleading statement cost me $15,000. Once I found out my claim was denied on my basement I started searching elsewhere for insurance. Guess what? No one wants to insure me or my property. I have had too many claims in a three year period. I just received a letter from American Family stating they are terminating my policy. So here I am, lost trying to figure out who will insure me. Despite all of the good reviews written by others, this has been my experience unfortunately. I hope others will take my experience and let it weigh in on their decision to work with Adam and his team with American Family. At the end of the day, I made the choices I did. I am just upset that due to lack of, or ill advisement, I am now left in this mess."
