"The TEFL program run by the CESL department at University of Arizona accepts tuition, assigns students as "public" so students have no recourse if things go wrong (because CESL is not governed by the US Dept of Ed), then they fail the portfolios and do not provide accurate or sufficient details on the reason for the failed grade. Feel free to email me if you want proof, I have plenty. UPDATE BELOW -- IT'S A GOOD READ =) Also, watch the reply they provide here. You might see how they treat public students in their response (if they don't find a way to pay extra to try to mute me online). UPDATE: well fellow students, they said it in their reply: they are not governed by the Dept of Ed -- we have no protections for us as students if we choose UofA's CESL for our learning program Additionally, the Commission for English Language Program Accreditation did certify UofA's TESOL/TEFL program, that is true. The problem is that there appears to be no review or follow up by the CEA, or their standards are not followed with proper rigor. There are many flaws with UofA's TESOL/TEFL accreditation, I'll give only one finding here. Their website says: Faculty Standard 3: Faculty who teach English demonstrate excellent proficiency in English. ... My entire portfolio, which had NO spelling or grammatical errors, was riddled with criticisms of such (in error obviously). But then, this is quite humorous actually, the faculty members who reviewed my stellar work actually are NOT proficient in English. How so? Not only did they misspell many things and butcher their grammar, the most obvious offense is that they can't cognitively differentiate between the use of "it's" and "its". They got it wrong every single time. This indicates they are not proficient in the language they wish to teach and therefore UofA's CESL department does not meet CEA's accreditation standards. When choosing a TEFL certification, choose wisely my friends."
"CESL is a wonderful place. The teachers know how to deliver the message to students, especially international students. Imagine that the students with no English level can go to the top 100 US university in least than 2 years. I love CESL! It is not only a great place to student English, but also a great place to work."
"CESL is like my second home! I love all the teachers there. They were sooooo supportive, the classes were also very well structured. CESL provided outdoor activities every week for us to explore Tucson and nearby. I joined several clubs too so I can meet more friends! It is a very good English school, if you want to learn, you should come! You will like CESL!"
"CESL is a great place to learn English! I am glad I made the good choice! Teachers here are super nice. They care about our international students. They are always willing to help me even after I left CESL. I miss CESL! Enjoy your study here!"
"I was there in 2014. The experience I had was superior, and the teachers are really great using great language acquisition skills, at least all my teachers are. It is the only reason I am able to continue my higher education here in the US. Don't be absent, pay attention to homework, and work on passing knowledge of all language skills. Don't get mad if the fluency level takes time to occur because that is not abnormal. I appreciated learning there. The diversity can help. If you don't prepare or take preparation courses for passing the language skills examinations passing them would be hard, and frankly, it is your responsibility to take advantage of learning and become good in reflecting your language in testing mediums."
