"My son has been with ASU digital prep for 2 years coming from online with the school district, but starting kindergarten thru 4th at an actual on person school. I’ve gotta say his grades are immaculate!! ASU digital prep has done an amazing job with employing some of THEE best teachers. It’s amazing what a child can do when their teachers take the Time to show they believe in them take the time to be there for them. He has learned to work at his OWN pace and know that it’s ok. He’s learned to balance and how to make his own schedule according to how HIS brain is functioning that day or in general. Giving them that opportunity to do so does a lot for them. And as a parent sometimes it’s hard to allow ow kids/ teens to do what’s best for them, but in this case for US, it has been super beneficial for our son and how he applies that to every day life. We are thinking of adding little sister to the kinder program this year !! THANK YOU ASU PREP!"
"This review is for 7th grade middle school. We do not have experience with the elementary side. Prior to writing this review, I was shocked to have read some of the negative reviews (will go into that in a minute). In my review, I will name drop for transparency. *** THIS PROGRAM IS NOT FOR THE PARENTS TO JUST SIT THERE AND HAVE THEIR KIDS NAVIGATE *** Children will need guidance (as always!). First of all, shout out to Ms. Respess for being a stellar Learning Coach. She is prompt, kind, engaging and fun. My daughter always look forward to her Homeroom days. Homeroom days are "Live Lesson" days, but they usually have pretty cool topics to talk about with the kids. From guest speakers, mental health, habits, etc. All very useful. Going into it ASU Digital, I was already aware that the LL would be 1 hour each per week, per class. I'm not sure where the other reviewer got that it would be 6 hours? Perhaps they just added the classes together? Anyway, yes one hour may not seem enough, but hear me out: if you look at the grades/assignments due for the week, the teachers cover the lesson FOR THAT WEEK. I've never had an issue with not being able to see a recorded lesson. Yes, you have to guide your children (I thought this was pretty obvious) through reading the materials. They even have audio so you can listen and read along. The school provides "Cornell Uni" study note method (available to print, if you can't find it, msg your LSC or teacher), which is great and similar to what I grew up with, but in this case, my daughter preferred mine lol. The program is RIGOROUS. Your child will have a lot to do in ELA and Science. Math depends on your level, which is great. The explanations in ALEKS are simple and it doesn't feel like the new Common Core bs. They even have video tutorials. That being said, due dates are ONLY recommended for pacing. You can turn in later. Yes, you will have to buy your own supplies just like in public schools. You can claim those on your tax returns. If you don't want to buy notebooks, pens, etc- I highly suggest getting Microsoft OneNote. Getting in touch with the teachers are easy and quick. Some teachers will not grade until due date, others will grade it early. I have not come across with teachers that are even 1 week late or more. They've all been early or on time. Overall, we have been very happy with the program. My daughter loves it so much that she doesn't want to go back to brick and mortar until college. Highly recommend."
"Basically you are your kid's teacher. They only do 2 hours of live lessons. Like the other reviewer said not sure what teachers are getting paid for. I feel like they don't learn much in those 2 hours. The rest is all you teaching and helping.. They are getting paid by the state for you to do all the work. This is good for someone who wants to homeschool but needs a guide. Also no materials are provided. You have to print all activities and buy white board, writing journals etc. Also they want you to sign up for school lunches so they can receive free money when your kid ain't getting no lunch ..you're online. ??? They also say it's flexible and can watch live lessons later but they are never uploaded.. stuff on the homework packs (seesaw) are always wrong or links don't work.. I would say if your child has a learning disability this is probably not for you. This is definitively not designed for you.. Only reason I stayed was because I didn't want to keep moving my child. We will definitely not return next year. Only thing I will say is the teacher is quick to respond. Edit: According do this school my son was where he needed to be as far knowledge. Once we went to in person the teacher told me he was behind. I wouldn’t trust what they say for the online school. Thankfully my child is doing so much better and was able to catch up. The elementary program lacks a lot. Hopefully they get it to where it needs to be."
"As a student here, it disheartens me to see these negative reviews when I can confidently say that this school meets my needs for achievement more than any other in the state. I came to ASUPD when I learned about concurrent enrollment and its advantages, and it's honestly been the best choice for me since. One of the benefits that I don't see people talk about is how much online school frees your schedule. It's refreshing no longer being bound by the tight schedules and time-wasting passing periods of in-person schools, and being able to comfortably pursue opportunities like part-time jobs, research, hobbies, and whatever else you can think of doing. While the teacher may only host weekly lessons, they're always willing to respond to texts and emails if you need more help. I've had teachers respond to messages within minutes, even seconds! I will say that the expected workload can be daunting, and that's why this school isn't for unmotivated, unstructured kids without a clear goal in mind. This school is best for kids with a more fulfilling, challenging education as their priority, and there's nothing wrong with that."
"This is definitely not for unmotivated children who need structure. If your student is self driven, adaptable and analytical this is a viable option. This is not a place where the average student can get away with 2 hours of work and be done with your day. When they say 6 hours of work, we've found that is a pretty accurate amount. Unless your student is advanced, you should be really attentive to your students learning style. My high school student thrives in this environment and has found success when the boundaries of classroom hours have been stripped away. She can focus on her studies on her time and enjoys getting to know students from all over Arizona & beyond with the virtual clubs. She is more driven towards her academic goals and I think she believes more than ever that she has support from her instructors. I'm really impressed with the instructor feedback (critical & appreciative) on writing assignments and the assessment process. The opportunity to take university courses for free is an excellent bonus. We're really happy with our choice."
