"Great Instructors, pristine aircraft. They helped me finish my PPL in a focused, organized and safe manner. I will be recommending them to others."
"I am hoping all of my complaints will be addressed by the new director of training at Scottsdale. She was not there when all this happened in October. The only good thing was the flight instructor that I worked with was great. He is the only reason for 2 stars. My initial call to the recruiter for American Flyers that I spoke with, told me I would be able to be checked out by a DPE before the end of October (when I thought my written was going to expire) at the Scottsdale location only. With this in mind, I traveled there from NY for 2 weeks to finish up my commercial training. When I got there I was told the DPE went out of the country for the same 2 weeks I was going to be there but others were all set and waiting for check rides too. Which told me I was lied to by someone along the line. Scheduling was a disaster, I didn't find out my schedule until the day before every single day for 2 weeks. I also did not fly a 172 like I thought. 3/4ths of my 250 was logged in a 172 the first 1/4th time was in a 152. I had a nice conversation with the new director today about all of my issues listed above. She listened to my complaints seemed pretty empathetic and caring and like she really wanted to fix it. It all came about because my remaining balance on my account still had not been returned to my bank account (it should be on the way after today). I hope all of mine and a lot of other issues get ironed out at the Scottsdale location."
"I've recently been through one of their Private Pilot Finish up Programs. The team in Arizona was excellent to work with. When my cross country plans, with an instructor, were rained on, they quickly adjusted and we managed to get it done. In fact, I was able to do my remaining instrument time on the return flight. Their aircraft are well maintained and well equipped. The instructors that I worked with were very good, and provided key info and tricks to help me shake off some rust. Overall, I recommend this group highly. Go there for training. You won't be sorry. Dan"
"Excellent experience all around. I have trained at a few schools and am glad I chose American Flyers to obtain my instrument rating and commercial certificate! The staff is attentive, knowledgeable, accommodating and organized. The instructors are proficient, patient, and thorough while facilitating a comfortable, efficient, safe and enjoyable learning environment. I HIGHLY recommend American Flyers!"
"I came to American flyers with a part 61 private certificate and this was my first time with a 141 program. I like how it’s very structured compared to part 61. In my opinion I have gotten better instruction using a 141 over 61. Price will be a factor as 141 is always a more expensive route but also you usually can get done faster and at a lower time minimum. I’m almost done with commercial and will be around 190-200 hours as opposed to the 61 minimum of 250. The only bad thing about flying anywhere in Phoenix is the heat during the summer but if that is a dealbreaker come fly in the winter when it’s 60-70. American flyers is definitely a school you need on your radar before choosing a flight school and spending 10s of thousands on training. Their refund policy is a no brainer as well. I’ve been here going on 4 months and I havnt seen one instructor leave yet either and they have plenty of instructors here too. Last thing Scottsdale’s airport is great. The controllers are very nice and the airport is nicely laid out and is a very easy class Delta to train out of and become more familiar with controlled airports, bravo airspace, and taxiing."
