"I am currently a high school student here. The student body here is good, better than an average public school. I have found it easy to make friends, and I have had very few classmates dislike me for unreasonable reasons. There are a lot of talented students here, and I have learned a lot from them. We have a large LGBTQIA population here, and everyone is either interested or experienced as a visual or performing artist. The security here is very poor, and the school is not located in the best part of Tempe. I worry about my safety often, and I know other students worry too. Most of the teachers here are good, and teach their classes well. There are a few teachers and staff I worry about though. I understand life happens, and teachers get taken out unexpectedly, however I am concerned about how many teachers are really certified to be teachers for the classes they teach, and how many really should be a teacher here. The dean of this school appears to be very friendly at first, and if you stay in line and don’t ask too many questions you will be fine. However, if you do not prefer how she runs the school or you confront her about something she does not like nor wants to help with, she will show a very toxic and narcissistic version of herself. She seems to want to take the easiest way out of situations sometimes and only helps the students and parents who stay quiet and ones that she favors. She can be very two-faced, so just be aware of that. I have noticed that over the past few years, she has gotten a lot worse, and I am worried about the future of this school. If you think I'm creating lies, look at previous reviews on this page. The lower starred reviews have more thumbs up than the 5 star reviews. I think that says something...."
"I love my school, so many amazing teachers and I've met so many amazing people there, and it's a great community for lgbtg+ students to feel welcomed, however favoritism is unfortunately visible."
"This school has helped my kid & I can tell a few other kids open up & feel more comfortable in a school setting. Thank you to Katy & the entry school staff for all you do for our kids / your students & their families. You are all Incredible & very appreciated! Katy, Mizz Dymond, Jean, Mr. Silva, Mrs. C, Mrs. Craig, Ms. Kellen, Ms. Parker are fantastic just to name a few! The entire school is full of encouraging teachers & staff & it shows daily! Thank you NSAA! Happy my kiddo attends there! #NSAARocks!"
"My daughter, who is an artist, graduated from NSA years ago. She is currently 35 yo. It was a great choice for her and a great experience. She received a good academic foundation and an incredible art program there. She made some lifelong friends there. She went on to ASU where she received a BFA in painting and graduated Magna Cum Laude. After a few years, she returned to ASU and studied for an MAsters in Social Work. She is correctly an LMSW and works as a counselor with an organization in Phoenix that combines Art with therapy."
"Middle and high school age art school. Right on the ASU campus and super close to the light rail and the interstate. The school is a wonderful small school for musical and mixed media artists. Very supportive teachers learning history and science and diversity in the classroom and world. Choral program, musical ensembles, drama, a pottery room with kiln, photography class with large darkroom, digital art classes with top of the line graphics programs and computers, and life drawing classes. This is a laid-back campus that is trusting and very peaceful! The first time you visit you need to know that the entrance to the school is from the back parking lot through the front office. As you enter, the waiting area is an art gallery with the most recent student exhibits."
