"My husband of 20 years went to see Dr. Lillie Cortes to help with marital issues (mistreatment due to lack of communication). She was recommended to him by “several friends”. First, most therapists have a rule against this as to not let anything slip from the other person’s sessions. Secondly, Dr. Cortes practices at a facility specializing in sex addictions and her whole bio mentions no training or expertise in family matters outside of the sex addiction context. She treats marital issues on a side. Trust your guts. If the bio mentions nothing about marriage or divorce, it doesn’t matter if they tell you they can still treat you. (They will probably change her bio after this review. And they also keep deleting reviews. There are ZERO reviews for an established business) After only a month, Dr. C helped my husband “extract” himself from marriage and decide in favor of divorce. As a result, my solid partner with strong family values is now cursing at me while screaming. He also “extracted” himself from his daughters. It’s been over a month since he gave our 10 y.o. undivided attention while playing with her for 15 minutes. He sees her a couple of times a week during pickup/dropoff which he occasionally forgets. If you don't have kids, Dr. Cortes is what you need. You will leave your spouse like they never existed. However, if you’re married with kids, find yourself qualified help (don’t forget to ask personal questions to see if they can manage their own marriage). The good marriage counselor will specialize in this area and will first spend an ample amount of time determining whether the divorce is in your best interests despite of your immediate urge. They will encourage interviews with the family memberS and will explain how your decision will affect them. If it comes to it, a good counselor will help you leave the family amicably. Dr. Cortes failed all of the above. I hope she realizes this and refers him to the right specialist."
