Castle Apartments

"I lived in this apartment building for 3 years in 2 different units. This apartment is in a great location, I walked to campus every day, and I was able to catch a ride on the streetcar to get to work too. It is nice and quiet, and the neighbors are friendly. The live in maintenance man is super nice and always came to assist rapidly in emergencies. The in-unit AC units are quite loud but work well. And recently there have been many plumbing issues and the water is frequently off, but hopefully that is being, or has been fixed since I moved out. The building is cute and historical but could use some updates. My last unit had a large hole in the bathroom floor which was covered up with a piece of plywood at my request. My front door was also missing a large chunk at the bottom, but it was easily fixed, by my parents and myself, with a drill and some spare lumber. I also experienced some issues with rainwater seeping in through the cracked exterior stucco. The interior paint bubbled and peeled on one wall. My catalytic converter was cut out of my car while it was parked in the parking lot, but this shouldn't be an issue unless your car has pretty high clearance off the ground. Once I got it fixed, I moved it to the middle row or kept it toward the light and I never had another issue. On a more positive note, the pool is always nice and clean and there are nice amenities like a bike cage, a basketball court and a backyard space with a pergola. The interior decor is super fun and castle themed, and the landscaping is always super nice. I never had any issues with my fridge or freezer and when my oven in my first unit died it was rapidly replaced. This complex is super cat friendly and feels super secure with a locking outer gate, and a locked front door that leads to each of the individual unit doors which also lock. Overall, the Castle apartments are imperfect but nice places to live."

"Lived here since october 2020, they're affordable apartments. my studio is no more than 500 sq/ft and i'm paying $660 a month. the bathroom walls were slightly orange/brown from pevious tenants smoking cigarettes but never any smell from it, and we just cleaned it up with a swiffer mop. Maintenance guy is super nice, i have been waiting awhile for my shower to be fixed because he's waiting on parts and the water to the whole complex would need to be shut off so it's understandable and my shower is still functional just annoying. I've never met the owners Zach or Amy but Amy has always been nice when I've texted her about any questions or comments i had. AC units are disabled in the winter months but even on warmer days i was never sweating. just buy an extra fan. anytime there's routine matinence they make sure to let everyone know many days before and everyone who's ever done matinence just comes and does what they need to and gets out. never feels like they're intruding. and no one has ever been into my apartment for any reason besides matinence. there's only 2 washers and dryers and they work ok for the building being so old. i loved living here, quiet and friendly neighbors, nice clean pool, and a pretty safe place for being near the university."

"apartment manager is a bully, Amy is very impatient to get your lease signed, but very patient to not answer any reasonable questions about the apartment. Before signing lease be aware that you are required to turn off AC unit EVERYTIME you leave the building (Amy does not care if you have an animal that will suffer from the arizona heat). You are also banned from turning the AC below 75 while you are allowed to have it on. If there is "evidence" that one does not follow the AC unit rules, you may be liable for replacing the entire unit. She would not allow me (someone who has had my application approved by her) to speak with any of their current residents as a reference for the complex even though I was required to provide a reference for my previous apartment complex to them... this does not sit well with me considering that if there was nothing bad to say about the place, I believe it would be no problem to speak with a current resident. I suggest that one asks for all apartment rules even before filling out the application (it has a $50 nonrefundable fee)."

"After renting 2 other places near the university we finally found a hidden gem. Managers extremely helpful and maintenance man was so friendly and really keeps an eye out for everyone. No hidden fees like other college apartments. What you see is what you get. Complaints of break ins etc. occur every where in the university area."
