About the Cochise Stronghold Retreat
Cochise Stronghold Retreat is a health and lodging institution located at 2126 Windancer Trail in Cochise, Arizona, United States. This retreat center offers a peaceful and serene environment for individuals and small groups to deepen their mindfulness skills and practice meditation. Led by experienced instructors Har-Prakash and Shinzen Young, participants can explore the 10-stage model of meditation described in The Mind Illuminated.
The retreat center is situated in the beautiful Dragoon Mountains of southeast Arizona, surrounded by stunning granite peaks, lush forests, and abundant wildlife. It is a sacred place that has been appreciated by the Chiricahua Apaches and meditators alike. The center welcomes spiritual seekers from all traditions and aims to support spiritual awakening rooted in the teachings of the Buddha.
In addition to meditation retreats, Cochise Stronghold offers hiking and horseback riding trails that wind through the mountains, providing opportunities for exploration and connection with nature. The center is located within close proximity to Tucson Airport, Benson, Willcox, and Sunsites, making it easily accessible while still maintaining a remote and peaceful atmosphere.
The passing of Culadasa, John Yates, a founding member of Dharma Treasure and author of The Mind Illuminated, is mourned with compassion by the community. The center also offers support for ethical concerns and conflicts through its Ethics and Reconciliation Council.
Whether you are an advanced practitioner looking to deepen your practice or a spiritual sojourner seeking peace and connection, Cochise Stronghold Retreat offers a welcoming and supportive environment for all.

Reviews of Cochise Stronghold Retreat
"Dharma Treasure has changed my life for the better."
"Interesting, caring, open people committed to learning & living Dharma in a stunning natural landscape - doesn't matter what lineage you follow (or any) as long as you can commit to the 5 basic precepts & are interested in meditating."
"Cochise Stronghold Retreat is no longer operating - a meditation retreat , which is now closed due to the virus, has taken it's place. Cochise Campground is also closed as of 3/23/20. We're neighbors."
"My wife and I could not have been more pleased with our decision to stay at the the retreat. Everything about our time there was wonderful and the accommodations where fantastic and hidden away in one of the most beautiful canyons in Arizona. They really thought of everything and put a touch of class and care into everything that was there. If you order the breakfast you will be dinning like kings, the food was amazing. We had a Peach mesquite smoothie one morning with everything else and it was just great. The beds were first class, everything was clean, comfortable, and well thought out for our stay. I could have stayed there a few weeks and not felt out of place. Loved the Hot tub under the stars, and the meditation Yurt in the mornings. Even was able to get the travel laundry done and air dry it on the line. This will be our reoccurring getaway for sure."
"We were there a few years ago in late March and rather enjoyed our stay. The hike over the pass is challenging and features some great views. Looks like several other good mountain hikes to be done from the campground area also.Read up on some Apache history before you go to improve your experience and appreciation of the area. There are quite a few rustic campsites nearby, the improved campground is fairly small but we had no problem showing up on a weekday and getting a site. There is a rugged gravel pass road about 15 miles south that is quite remote and brings you around to the west side of the Dragoon mountains, with rock climbing and rustic camping found there."
