"I traveled to Patagonia to do some gravel bike riding, which didn't quite work out and is another story, but the Spirit Tree was the highlight. My disappointment at my equipment failure was tempered by Mary Jane's friendly and attentive hosting, and Tom's breakfasts. It's a big rustic place, and I was impressed by the energy with which Mary Jane keeps the place up. Excellent location to get away, relax, and bird watch. Nearby Patagonia Lake was a nice place to spend the day. Highly recommended."
"Mary Jane and Tom are thoughtful, interesting and helpful hosts at this unique BnB. There were many “pro’s” during my recent stay in the Homestead House. The main house patio is a divine birdwatching area, and is a great spot for enjoying tea or a glass of wine (if you remembered to bring some along) after a day of hiking and birdwatching at the local preserves. And the rustic ranch property is quiet and inviting for walking around. The prickly pear and blue corn pancakes with agave syrup were memorable. The Homestead casita fell more on the “con” side, with rusty water that stained my toothbrush, chilly despite the makeshift noisy bedroom heaters and a level of disrepair revealing its age. The windows were dirty and the patio table and chairs next to the casita were not at all inviting. Granted, I was there on a cooler-than-seasonal early spring visit, but it seemed like it might always be a little rundown. Fortunately I was able to get around the shortcomings and truly enjoy my stay. I toured the rooms in the main house and they appear to be better maintained. The main house sitting area is filled with a fascinating collection of Native American artworks, antiques and memorabilia. Another time I would definitely choose the main house. Pricing seems high for what is offered, however. Don’t plan on any cell phone or internet service inside any of the buildings. Service (Verizon) was weak and spotty outside. In summary, rustic and out-of-the ordinary in a mostly good way is a fair description of place, and the people are a treasure. March 2023"
"A real escape. We really enjoyed this place. Like staying on a working farm in every respect and hostess Mary Jane was very nice and her significant other Tom is a great cook. Ask Tom to take you for a walkabout after breakfast. The old farm implements, tractors and peg barn are really interesting and Tom is a great guide. Really knowledgeable and fun to talk with. We rated 4 instead of 5 stars because it is really remote, down a dusty road near the biking and walking entrance to the state park several miles outside town. For this reason you may decide to rate 6 stars instead."
"Mary Jane and Tom could not have been better hosts. We felt as though we were visiting close family. They are charming and willing to share their stories about themselves and their collectibles. We are not bird people, but we could not help but be overwhelmed by the amazing number and variety of them on the patio. Btw, the Arizona Trail is only about 1/4 mile away and was deserted during our mid-December visit. We hope to return with some friends next year. Also, Tom makes an amazing breakfast."
"Authentic rustic ranch house, handsomely furnished on a gloriously sprawling property. Private and very quiet. Not fancy and may seem a little rough for some tastes, but we loved everything - comfortable bed, the old cottonwood tree and the inviting patio/courtyard. We found very friendly hosts and guests here. Wonderful hiking, biking, and bird watching all nearby. We especially enjoyed the Homestead Casita behind the main house. The breakfasts and company were great! Patagonia is a sweet little town too."
