"Ajo is nostalgic to me, my family lived there, my parents were born there, my grandpa's worked in the mine. I am fascinated with the old mining towns in AZ. To me, Ajo is great. It is very quiet, and there are not many food options anymore. It is a one night kind of trip. The Inn was very cool it is a renovated elementary school that was part of the famous cvrley High School. It could have been a little bit cleaner as far as dust. I love the antiques, the bathroom was big, and the beds were comfy. My only complaint is no TV, and a pool or hot tub would be divine. So, if you are ready to dive into some history and visit the first open mine copper pit in AZ, come spend the night and check it out. I love Ajo, but personally, Jerome and Bisbee are my favorite for a lot of reasons , especially food and wine. Ajo, you need more food and wine. What happened to all the awesome Mexican food? Claudia's, The copper kettle, ext."
"Rooms are very spaces and clean. Bed was so comfy, blankets, oh so soft! No coffee makers in rooms. We rented a EV for our trip. Not many places to charge your vehicles but staff was very helpful, finding us a place to plug in."
"An old elementary school, beautifully renovated and decorated tastefully with many subtle touches makes this a quality inn. A native garden in the middle of a big courtyard proved these folks care about our environment and are part of the solution. There was both a recycling and a trash bin in the room. Bravo. The shower was the best I have ever been in, but the Kleenex box only had a couple sheets left from the previous occupants. You will have to haul your stuff to your room from your car. Although remotely motel-style with a large tract around the entire circumference, you cannot drive to your room to unload. That may be hard for very old folks as it is a bit of a schlepp from your car to unload and load. Not sure what the solution might be. Saturday morning, sleeping in, I was awakened at 9am by a mysterious crowd of people talking and standing around a burn barrel of what looked like refuse (a definite no, no). I would recommend they move that elsewhere. For the rate, I might suggest limited maid service, and we were not told it had a kitchenette with a stove, modem, microwave, etc., That would have saved us money and effort, had the woman who booked the room told us. Lastly, in Gallery Three (a two bedroom suite), do please figure out how to dampen the loud, pulsating sound from the heat pump right outside the window, but especially, the dozen or so clicks in the wall that, like clockwork, repeated about every thirty seconds. This made the second room impossible to sleep in. We are rural tourists not used to noise when we sleep (even with ear plugs). We almost asked for a refund for the second room. At $200 a night it was a major splurge for us living only on social security. Appreciating the effort that went into it and their obvious care for the environment, we let it go. You know who we are (Gallery three; 1/12-14/2024) if you choose to own up with a refund for the second bedroom."
"Thanks to the great article in the Arizona Highways about the Sonoran Desert Inn, we book three nights just before Thanksgiving and were in complete agreement with the magazine that this place is a treasure! The room had everything we needed, accept for a door mat, since we're experts at dragging in gravel and dirt. It was comfortable, roomy, and quiet. The courtyard was amazing, the restoration of the historic building and surrounding buildings in Ajo, was heartwarming, the proximity to Organ Pipe National Monument was perfect for us to hike in during the day and the Inn was central, so we could stroll the streets in the late afternoons and evenings to delight in all of the creative and beautiful murals scattered throughout the downtown area. However, the best part of the stay was the staff. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Case in point, we purchased 4 bags of the famous Curly Coffee to take home with us as gifts and promptly left the bag in the gift shop. I was able to email the staff, who responded immediately, and mailed the bag to us. I was thrilled and they couldn't have been nicer. We have already recommended this place to several of our friends and plan on returning next winter. Great job!"
"This was a nice and very beautiful hotel. It was very hard to find at night. Not enough light to see anything. GPS took us there but the signs for it were not visible lit to see. Pay close attention at night. Self check-in which is nice. We were in and out too quick but there was a book on the hotel and what it offered and on the area was amazing. Lots of rabbits running around in the early morning hours. I hope they read and put a coffee maker in the room as we didn't have one."
