Portillo's Gilbert

"A part of Chicago has arrived to Gilbert. Portillo's is a great place to have Chicago style Hot Dogs and Italian Beef sandwiches. Fries are terrific as well. Menu offerings are broad but not overwhelming. Can't help notice though, like other restaurants, portions are smaller than my past experience with Portillo's in Chicago. Recommendation: If you order the Italian Beef sandwich, order it "Wet" with sweet peppers. Why anyone would eat a dry Italian Beef sandwich is beyond me. Strawberry shortcake is awesome and the chocolate cake appears to have the ability to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth."

"We went to Portillo’s on Market Street in Gilbert today. I had the chili cheese dog (jumbo) and a piece of the deliciously moist and sweet chocolate cake. I was a little confused why all the food comes in To Go bags when it has a dine in area. As you can see it really slops the wrapping. The food was exactly what I was expecting and the chili had a comforting taste. I wish I would have brought some Fritos with me that would have made it perfect. The atmosphere is cute with retro decorations of a time past and items of nostalgia on the walls."

"Portillo's is a festive, casual dining experience. I met a buddy for lunch, prayer, and reading the Bible together. You place your order, pay, find your favorite booth or table, inside or outside, and listen for your number. I ordered the crispy fish sandwich and a Greek salad. Both were good. he ordered a Philly cheese, fries, onion rings, and a Chicago Dog. He ate everything, so it must have been good. For dessert, I manhandled the strawberry shortcake while he did the chocolate eclair. Mine was good, I think he's going to try something different next time. Can't win 'em all. We'll both be back!"

"Because this is coming from someone who doesn’t love hot dogs or sandwiches, I have to give it a 4 star. The process of ordering needs to be better as this place is always packed! Maybe a kiosk to optimize ordering. We got the chili cheese dog and Italian beef sandwich. Now the hot dog is very mid, I honestly have to say I prefer Costco hot dogs over these. However the beef in the sandwich is elite. For someone who isn’t crazy about sandwiches, I definitely finished this whole. I recommend adding the cheese sauce to your sandwich. You can also have it “wet” where the sandwich is dunked in their signature gravy. We also tried the giardiniera sauce which was pretty underwhelming, tangy and not spicy, not worth paying extra."

"Spicy chicken sandwich was good. The beef was tender. The broth has a light good flavor. The chocolate cake shake was interesting. Didn’t love the hotdog. The place was super busy but three lines were super fast. Cool decor thought the restaurant. Loved the turnstile at the front entrance."
