About the Business
Swan Falls Picnic Area is a day-use park located at Swan Falls Road Dirt Extension in Murphy, Idaho, United States. This park features a reservable picnic shelter and is situated within the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area, next to the historic Swan Falls Dam powerhouse museum. The dam, built in 1901, was the first hydroelectric generating site on the Snake River, providing electricity to nearby mines. A new power plant was constructed in the mid-1990s, and the old plant now serves as a museum.
Although the historic powerhouse museum is currently closed for renovations, it will reopen for self-guided tours on Saturdays from April 20 through Aug. 31, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visitors can also explore interpretive signs in the park that detail the geologic and cultural history of the area. Equestrian parking is available below the dam, but overnight camping is not permitted. For more information on equestrian opportunities in the area, visit the Treasure Valley Back Country Horsemen’s website.
Please note that applicable state taxes will be added to all fees, and the reservation fee is non-refundable. Make plans to visit Swan Falls Picnic Area during the spring or summer to enjoy its scenic surroundings and historical significance.

"My family and I have been here twice now, and it's been beautiful both times! Desolate and pristine."
"Great place to spend time with family."
"Beautiful place to visit for fishing or a picnic. No cell service tho so be prepared!"
"This is a small oasis in the desert. There is grass for kids to play frisbee, several picnic tables, and huge trees... not to mention the mighty Snake river where you can swim or fish. The bathrooms are clean and open. Camping is nearby as well. Basically, a great place to come spend the day."
"Nicely kept up and interesting. They weren't doing tours of the facility the day we went but we walked on the catwalk that runs along the backside and to the other side of the river. Pretty interesting."
