"I have been having problems with new bus drivers not know how to work the bus fare box. This results in them over charging for my requested fare. There is no way for them to refund the overcharged amount. I consider this stealing. They all claim they are new, from out of town, and don't understand the system that they are working with. This is not acceptable. I have been overcharged 3 times in the last 2 weeks. Prior to this, I have had no issues because it was a regular driver."
"Very first ATTEMPT at riding the VRT on demand system. Started searching for rides at 11:30 FINALLY found one at 3:45. When I booked the ride it said 12 minutes away, I live 7-8 minutes walking distance from the stop. I left as soon as the ride booked and all of a sudden the arrival time jumped all the way to 3 minutes instantly. I get WITHIN 100FT of the bud and the driver leaves and waves at me! Absolutely ridiculous system and HORRIBLE first impression. If you depend on a bus system I feel bad for you and hope things get better because just from that first instance I can tell that they are COMPLETELY UNRELIABLE"
"Although not ideal, they do well with what they have - Idaho doesn't allow local option tax to support transit. The system works rather well for daytime commutes on main corridors like State and Fairview. We've saved thousands and many hours wasted attending to a steering wheel thanks to the ValleyRide bus system."
"I think it would be useful for the negative reviewers to remember that Idaho is one of only 2 states where public transportation receives ZERO state money. Their funding comes entirely from grants, some federal, and some local sources. Of course, I would love it if the buses ran later and more frequently. But, in my experience, riding the Hyde Park and Airport routes, I have been very impressed with the service and friendliness of the people, when there is service. Keep in mind that the reason for the limited hours and infrequent schedule is beyond VRT's control."
"I've had mixed results using the bus and it usually comes down to the quality of the bus driver for me. Last week I was stranded for an hour at the mall because the bus I came in on was 10' late and the bus I needed to transfer to took off as we were pulling in. Of course i was upset and when I called the customer service line I was asked if I alerted my bus driver so he could have had the other bus wait the extra minute I needed. Of course I didn't because I didn't even know we were running late. Customer service tried to see what my options were, but there were none. I was disappointed that the signage at the transit station showed the bus I needed should be on a 30' schedule and not the 60' schedule they actually were using. I've ridden other times where the driver called out frequent destinations for riders so they could know they might need to get off. There are occasional volunteers for bus assistance and often a lot of options for getting from point A to point B. While I do wish there were even more options I realize that Valley Ride is a business and they have to plan their routes for optimal utilization. It has been my experience that if you can be a little flexible, the bus is a good way to travel about the city & valley."
