"Surly Cross Check repurpose: I used the Cross Check for several years as a commuter bike. When I stopped going to an office, I wanted to repurpose it as a fun utility bike. Ryan made several recommendations on how to convert it to a gravel bike. He removed the fenders and racks and replaced the wheels and tires with lighter hubs and wider tubeless tires. It dramatically reduced the bike weight and completely changed the feel of riding. It has been more than four years since we made the change, and the Cross Check is my favorite bike. I have other bikes that are great and fun, but the Cross Check as a gravel bike is perfect for rides where I do not know exactly what I am going to ride, it rolls fast on pavement, handles well on the hard pack trails and single track and is fun on the greenbelt. The great part is, that Surly bikes are bomb proof. The components that Ryan recommended deliver solid performance at a great price. Thanks again for creating such a great ride! Bruce"
