"I had a pomeranian named Amy with a collapsed trachea issue that started bothering her over the summer, but was a growing issue over the winter and into spring. During a visit regarding her honking cough where she was diagnosed with a collapsed trachea, the doctor told me about a hydrocodone pill that she could prescribe for Amy, but it took time to order so we should do so now to get it in. I agreed to this and they told me they would order it. We returned for appointment after appointment and Amy's honking cough stayed, but there was never any urgency from Blackbob Pet Hospital to get back to me or answer my questions regarding the hydrocodone pill, despite me telling doctors and techs repeatedly that my dog was struggling at home and coughing a lot. I had to go out of town for work and I left my pomeranian in their care for boarding. They let her bark the entire time I was gone and didn't think to tell me at all until I picked her up and I could hear her frantic, honking choking bark from lobby. I asked if the barking was Amy and if she had been barking the entire time. The young tech with the straight brown hair laughed and said, and i quote: "yea, but the barking is like music, we don't even notice it!" I got Amy home and she was honking, gasping, choking for air and struggling to breathe. This continued into the night, and she was choking more than ever before, so I took her to Blue Pearl. The Blue Pearl doctor gave her a hydrocodone pill and an antibiotic to get her inflammation from the barking down so she could finally move some air. It provided her relief and we were finally able to get through a night peacefully. What I want to know is why didn't Black Bob Hospital notice any of this when she was under their care for three days? Why didn't any pet professional who knew about my dogs collapsed trachea think to do anything? Why didn't anyone tell me? The next day after our Blue Pearl visit, I tried again to get an update from Black Bob pet Hospital to find out when the hydrocodone pills would be arriving for my dog. I had been calling constantly, trying to figure out why it was taking so long, and I kept being given such a tremendous cold shoulder and run around... ?? Come to find out, BBPH had never put in the order for the hydrocodone pills despite me asking repeatedly and that now they would have to submit a written order and snail mail it to this one specific pharmacy because of the pills controlled substance status. I was informed this could take several additional days. Over the next several days of waiting, I had to watch my dog gasp, choke, wheeze, and struggle for air. I tried using a humidifier, I tried holding her in the bathroom and running the shower to help, I tried feeding her warm honey. Nothing helped. I never cried so much in my life watching her sit there and suffocate because this hospital promised us help and then ignored us and acted annoyed with me when I would call and try to get answers. My dog had so much life in her before that last visit to Black Bob Pet Hospital, she seemed like one of those indestructible type of dogs who would last forever. I gave up trying to get help for her on mothers day 2023 and ended up taking her to another emergency ER in Overland Park to be put down. I was told repeatedly that a collapsed trachea isn't supposed to be a death sentence diagnosis, so why wouldn't anyone help?! Black Bob Pet Hosital killed my dog by being completely negligent, ignoring her medical issues AND ME, not ordering medications in a timely manner, not alerting me at all that she was barking non-stop while boarded, and they acted like I was drug seeking or something for trying to secure medications that they had recommended to me. After I put my dog down, I received a crappy little "sorry about your pet" postcard in the mail, and I threw that soulless gesture in the trash immediately. This "shrug. you're on your own" type treatment was isolating, cruel, traumatic, and painful for both me and my dog to have her suffer that way. Amy deserved better."
"Dr. Carita Meyer at the Cat Clinic is fantastic. My 2yr old male cat, Porcini, was unwell over the weekend, vomiting a couple of times, eating/drinking very little, and keeping to himself. Even though the weather wreaked havoc with appts, I was able to get him in at Tues 4pm. This was my first visit to Blackbob Pet Hospital, and I came here because of several referrals from both cat/dog people I know. I was very impressed with the way the cat examining rooms are set up to minimize fear and help calm cats. They have cat toys, a climbing apparatus on the wall, and places for cats to hide. (My cat is a "hider" but still investigated everything.) Porcini was definitely calmer than he had been at our previous vet. The vet techs were professional, friendly and good with Porcini. Dr. Carita Meyer was awesome. She asked me many questions to find out what could be happening, examined him, and she came up with a treatment plan. We took bloodwork and discovered he had pancreatitis. After some IV fluids (he was dehydrated, too, from not drinking enough) and a shot to calm his tummy (pancreatitis can cause them a very painful tummy ache), we went home. Within an hour he had perked up and went to his water bowl and started drinking. He ate a spoonful of wet food and held it down. The next morning, it was like he was almost his old self! He was up and about, drinking and eating like normal, with no vomiting or apparent stomach upset. He even brought me his mouse to throw and play fetch with him! I thought the bill was fair, not cheap but not expensive, and prices were discussed beforehand. They took a lot of time with my pet, which I appreciated. Just a note, I did have to wait 20-25 min for the bloodwork to run, but I was told ahead of time & said I was ok to wait. I ended up spending about 2 hrs there, which was necessary. I wish my "people" doctor would be as thorough with my issues! Another thing that impressed me-- at EVERY other vet I've been to throughout my life, and I was bringing in my pet because of illness, not something routine--if my pet was close or past due on shots, other vets would push to get those done immediately even though my pet was there for illness. I mentioned this to the vet tech, and she thoughtfully explained that they don't believe in doing that, because the pet may feel worse or have an adverse reaction. I LOVE the fact that they are thinking about your pet, not making a few extra dollars. It would have been so easy, but they didn't do it. Dr Meyer also called the day after our visit to check on Porcini to be sure he was doing well, and see if I had any other questions. How great is that? Even though this place is a 30 min drive for me, I will be back because of the professional, great care here. Would definitely recommend for cats."
"This is where I bring my cats, and the staff is SO sweet to them. They're so kind, and will work with you to find the most affordable but effective treatment options. My kitten, Polaris, loves being there, and rolls around playing with toys in their kitten-friendly exam room! Great place, great folks. Can't speak highly enough of them!"
"Not a big Google review guy, but I do have to give huge respect to the Blackbob Animal Hospital for their service today. (1.18.23) They really took the time to sit down and discuss with me the specific questions I had about about taking care of my cat, as well as making sure he was in tiptop shape. Really recommending these guys..after making a few phone calls today, they got me in the same day and the customer service was top-notch."
