Reviews of Nathan and Olive Boone Homestead State Historic Site
"The Boone homestead was the most peaceful place I've been to in years. We stood on the nearly 200 year-old porch and listened to the insects and birds as the last summer breeze blew over us. It was so perfect a moment that we all forgot to take pictures and just shared the experience and beauty with each other. The trail was superbly maintained and easy to walk but not wheelchair friendly."
"Came here for the first time. I loved it. Probably one of the easiest hikes you will go on. I walked every trail they offered and it was right at 4miles. Took the pup with me (on a leash). For such a small area there is so much to see here. Ponds. Picnic areas. Creeks. Prairi field. Wildlife. They have done a great job and maintaining and marking the trails. Place is very clean and the history of the land is amazing!! Must see if you're in the area."
"This was an excellent place to visit and learn some history. Loved the old homestead house. We took our two dogs and hiked the trails and they loved it. We had a great day and didn't see anyone else at all. Very peaceful and they have picnic tables and restrooms."
"Loved the rich history. I brought my wheelchair-bound mother and had hoped the trail to the homestead was paved. It was pea gravel. With much difficulty I got the wheelchair thru the gravel and it was nice that she could see the house and grounds, but definitely not for the faint of heart if you have to push a wheelchair. Seeing inside the home was awesome and mom loved it. Also a couple other dirt trails to explore which I will do with my son's another time."
"This place is beautiful. There are picnic areas with grills. I seen one that had fire wood for it. Nice quiet trails to walk. The house is well preserved. There are interpreters there most of the time to tell you about it and life back then. The office has a small museum in it and small gift shop. There are restrooms. Handicap accessible. Great place to bring the kiddos."
