"Made a special trip up here all the way from Baldwin City kansas. I arrived at 3:45 p.m. and the door was already locked. A young lady and an older woman simply said that they're closed. I said it's 15 minutes until you're closing and they said they weren't making any exceptions. The older woman stated that they had issues and concerns with safety and they were closing at 4:00 p.m. with no exceptions. Very rude. She even said that she was not going to argue with me. Which at this point I wasn't even arguing I just simply stated that I had drove a long way to see the museum. The young lady just simply said sorry and walked off. The funny part is is I mainly just wanted to walk the grounds and I could have simply just walked through the house quickly without a guide or verbal tour. If you have issues with safety, then maybe you shouldn't be open at all? If you're posted hours are 11 to 4:00 p.m. then you need to stay open till 4:00 p.m. otherwise change your hours. Or find a staff that is willing to stay until you close."
"Amazing place to relax and set back in time. They done an incredible job of restoring the farmhouse and providing details on the way things were different in the daily lives back then. They have 40 acres now I believe and they started farming some of it to sell back to the community. We help out on the race here every year and just love visiting!!"
"It was a nice little park. My only complaint is that there isnt enough signage to let you know what you can do and where you can go. It was a nice walk- some sunny parts, some under the trees. There were some benches to rest on. The sunflower field and pumpkin patch were nice."
"They have a real working garden filled with heirloom plants. The garden is worked by local MU Extension Master Gardeners who are eager to answer gardening questions. The house was interesting and our tour guide gave us many historical tidbits. Quite a few hands-on activities so it's great place to visit for kids too. They also sell fantastic honey that comes from bees on the property. A great free Saturday afternoon activity."
"Enjoyed the period story reading and encampment. The period actors are very friendly. Great educational. Only partially wheelchair accessible in the house. If you cad do 1-2 steps you can see most of it. Very interesting architectural displays."
