"KU complain To whom it may concern, Yesterday, March 13 of 2023, I had my son’s 2mo visit at KU. I already knew it was a different doctor than his normal pediatrician, doctor Jeremy was kind, attentive and explained me what resqueted. Unfortunately in the middle of the appointment, the manager knocked the door and had a medical student entered the room to be part of the visit. Never asked me if I agreed or introduced the doctor. Doc Jeremy introduced her, and while examining Kai explained details to her of what he was doing and found, never to me, never address my baby’s name to her, it was like he was a model on an anatomy class, baby was crying so much. It felt I was in a movie where they stereotype cold doctors. I didn’t care because, as I said, first because he was attentive atitude begginint listening to my concerns and asking if I had doubts, second because I’m a Physical therapist my self and understand the importante of education. But i would suggest a better approach on this matter, a good customer service was lacking. Second the nurse who would do the shots, Hortencia, walked in never greeted, just asked me to confirm Kai’s name and dob, asked me to sign some papers and to put him on the bed for the shots. I was breastfeeding him and asked her Kindly to administrate the shots while he was being breastfeed. She denied and said she wouldn’t, I insisted but she confirmed she wouldn’t do and left the room to call her supervisor. Supervisor then entered the room and confirmed that taking the shots while feeding isn’t a practice they are trained or used to at the hospital. I’m extremely dissatisfied, disappointed and, even, a bit shocked. How a science and educational place, like KU, doesn’t follow WHO and CDC guidelines, doesn’t teach their professionals how to vaccinate infants while breastfeeding? Why not being up to date to what is best for mom and baby and recomenda from respected healthy organizations? Found this on the la Leche league and cdc and who websites: “VACCINES FOR THE BREASTFED BABY Many parents wonder about how to provide comfort for their breastfed baby receiving vaccines. For the breastfed baby, the most comforting place in the world is close to you. World Health Organization (WHO) recommends the following measures for comforting infants and young children before, during, and after receiving vaccines: Infants and young children should be held by their caregiver Caregivers should be present throughout and after the vaccination procedure Infants should be breastfed during or shortly before the vaccination session, if it is culturally acceptable Distractions such as toys, videos and music are recommended for children under 6 years of age[8]” Besides the unhappy face of the nurse Hortencia, she even wrote notes that I would do immunization back in my home country. Where did she take that information from? I never said that. I Only said it’s a common practice to feed while taking the shot back in my country, and in many other countries. This messages are a way of showing my unhappiness and disappointment with KU med practices. This entity is serious, but is lacking in modern and integrative practices, which adds a lot of value to any institution. I will highly NOT recommend this place, it’s unfortunately because Kai’s pediatrician doc Bettinger was very kind to Kai and a great professional. I’m writing in multiple platforms about this. Hope you guys understand and get better in a very soon future. Regards Mayne Chiaparro"
"I personally do not like going to the hospital. I don't know anyone who enjoys it. I'm giving 5 stars because they do save people's lives and the Doctors, nurses, and support staff are very compassionate and professional. The hospital is doing very well. Every time I visit it seems to grow larger."
"We love our Pediatrician at KU Pediatrics but their is such limited support otherwise. I don't know it they are short staffed but getting a hold of anyone to set up an appointment or ask a question is very difficult. Their voicemail options also do not work correctly. If you hit an option often it will say "invalid option"... Other extensions will ring and ring and ring with no answer. Easy fixes if they are addressed, but in the mean time it is very frustrating on this end."
"My daughter goes to ku pediatric neurology unit for seiaures and they are great with her. The only thing I hate it the turnover rate of the drs. Otherwise they are awesome!"
