"I’m an inpatient therapist at a local psychiatric hospital working with individuals with suicidal ideation as well as severe and persistent mental illness. I work with Johnson County Mental Health frequently (so much so that I can recite all addresses and phone numbers off the top of my head), both for new clients as well as their current clients. Front desk staff - Phenomenal. I am always able to speak with someone with minimal wait time (if any), and they are always kind and personable. Case managers - I will preface by saying they have some awesome case managers and they have others that are not very involved or responsive when trying to coordinate care. However, this is typical for any mental health center. I am also glad that the majority of case managers have been following up with their clients in the community as this was not happening during the last year. Therapists - Based on feedback from my patients, many of the therapists leave a lot to be desired. From my Experience, they are difficult to get ahold of, and don’t meet very consistently with patients. It also isn’t clear what goals are being addressed during therapy. Medication Management Providers - Easy to schedule medication follow ups, and seem competent overall. I also appreciate that they are very cautious about prescribing controlled substances. Crisis - I know they’re doing their best given the increasingly high demand for services, but it would be helpful if they could be more flexible with coordinating care for new patients or our involuntary patients who often lack basic needs or compliance issues that prevent them from coming in for walk in assessments."
