"On the morning of December 16, 2023, I eagerly arrived at the salon 3901 Main St., for my scheduled appointment. It was my first time trying out this particular location, and unfortunately, my experience left me feeling incredibly disappointed. What’s incredibly disappointing is that this stylist wasn’t even the stylist I had scheduled with but she was the one that drove me out of the business entirely. The salon was located downtown, which meant I had an hour-long drive just to get there, which typically I have no issue with. To my dismay, as soon as I arrived, I realized that I would have to turn around and drive back home. Upon reaching the exterior door of the building, I discovered that it was locked, and I needed to call my specific stylist in order to gain entry. I appreciated the added security measures. I dialed my stylist's number through the speaker and informed her of my arrival. She informed me that she hadn't yet arrived at her suite but instructed me to proceed to the second floor and wait for her in the designated waiting room. She assured me that she would only be a few minutes. As I made my way to the lobby/waiting room, accompanied by my clearly marked service dog, I noticed that the second floor was shared by several privately rented suites under the collective name "KC Beauty Business District." Apart from myself, there were two other individuals waiting in the lobby. Being mindful of my service dog, I tried to position myself away from others. I found myself within at least 10+ feet of the nearest lady who was also waiting. As is customary during any outing with my service dog, she immediately settled down quietly at my feet once I took a seat. However, my peaceful moment was abruptly interrupted by a stylist standing on the opposite side of the room, her suite door open to the lobby. She inquired about the stylist I was there to see, and I politely provided the information. In response, she gestured towards a hallway and informed me that my stylist's room was located "down that way." I explained to her that I had already spoken to my stylist, who had instructed me to wait in the lobby where I was currently sitting. The stylist then insisted that I wait outside in the hallway, beyond the waiting room, because the lady who was more than 10 feet away from me was supposedly "allergic to dogs." I found this claim rather dubious, considering the distance between the lady and the stylist, which made it highly unlikely that they had even exchanged such information verbally. Politely, I reminded the stylist that my dog was a service animal protected by federal law. Unfazed, she asked if my stylist was aware of my service animal, to which I replied that it was not necessary for me to disclose that information in order to be allowed inside a business. To my dismay, the area where I was instructed to wait was a cramped hallway with no seating, only an elevator and a door leading to a stairwell. The entire encounter left me feeling distraught, and I never even had the opportunity to meet my stylist. I had no choice but to request a refund for my appointment. Furthermore, the stylist's behavior not only affected my experience but also cost another stylist business due to her unprofessional conduct. The whole experience was extremely upsetting. For as long as I’ve had my service dog, this was the first time i’ve had to endure this kind of treatment. Not to mention, I had made this specific trip to the salon to treat myself for my birthday that was only two days prior. Extremely unprofessional and knowingly violating federal law. I will never be returning to this business."
