"This is from my personal experience back in 2016. In June of 2016 my mother, who also was a patient here, completed suicide. Whenever my next appointment was my dental hygienist remembered my mom and asked where she was. I told her she had passed away... hygienist asked "oh how did it happen?!" I got very quiet and the hygienist seemed to understand and said "you don't have to say..." But by then I was angry at such a rude and personal question, I told her the answer and that was at the beginning of the appointment. During the rest of it she asked about my marital situation and if I had kids, and I said "no I don't want kids, I just want to be an aunt" she asked "oh is that because of your mother?" That extremely embarrassing and demeaning experience aside Dr. Nielson said he could make a long time filling in my front tooth match the rest of my tooth color, he not only failed to do so but it chipped within a week on one of my own homemade cookies. He fixed it without making me pay but I now live in Topeka so I need to find a good dentist here, probably not recommended by Nielson. Even with the poor filling experience...who asks anyone how someone passed when they're purposefully obscure?? ESPECIALLY if you don't know them personally but just through dental service? Basic manners tell anyone not to ask how someone passed or what happened, a dental hygienist who may have known me and my family a couple years...I don't want to be mean but come on, they don't know me or my mother or my family. That question and the various questions and comments were absolutely outside the acceptable manners, and I do still hold a grudge for it."
"had some nice experiences until the last year or so. FO is rude and blunt, doesnt seem to care about patient well-being. Seem to make things unnecessarily difficult. i wont be returning after seeing them for several years."
"Horrible treatment. Dr. Nielson decided to refuse the cleaning I was scheduled for. According to his billing office, my family had a $1400 overdue balance. I got "kicked out" and got treated very poorly because of this assumption. They never notified me about the overdue balance (it was from 2021), I found out just as I walked in for my cleaning appointment. He demanded I pay right on the spot or I am not getting the cleaning done that I was there for. When I walked out and called my insurance, I was informed that his billing office failed to send the claims over to the insurance within 12 months of service, that's why the insurance didn't cover them. His billing office called me later and admitted the fault. They said they missed the fact they only had 12 months to send the paperwork over to the insurance, and said they were going to cover the amount. Very unprofessional and zero customer service including Dr. Nielson. I informed the office that I expect an apology from him for such poor treatment but obvioulsy he doesn't care. Give your money, time and trust to a different dental practice, Nielson Family Dentistry doesn't deserve any of it."
"The front office ladies are rude and unprofessional. Not to mention that they kept sending my bills to the wrong address and expected me to pay for something insurance covered a year ago. The hygienist and Dr. Nielson missed the fact that I had the early onset of gum disease which the new dentistry I go to discovered it on the first visit. Overall, I was not satisfied with my experience."
"Nielson Family Dentistry has taken care of my family's dental needs for about nineteen years now. They always have friendly staff who make each visit a personal one. Even when our boys were smaller, they looked forward to going to the dentist because the staff made it fun for them. If there is a problem with our teeth between visits, they are great in working with our schedules to get us in and fix our problem. . Keep up the good work!!"
