"Food was pretty good, they have great chips and the al pastor taco was pretty tasty. Our service was slow, but other tables with different servers seemed fine. Menu is a little confusing regarding the taco platters, it states that the taco platter is two tacos plus rice and beans, and then there are prices listed for individual tacos and platters. We each said we wanted the platter, so we ordered two different tacos and one of us wanted no rice and the other wanted no beans. Our server neglected to tell us that the platter price is only for one type of taco, so we were charged a la carte for each taco plus the two sides. Not a huge deal, but if we had known that we wouldn't have ordered two sides and saved a few bucks. Overall it wasn't bad, but the service and communication could have been better."
"As a seasoned margarita-drinker and salsa-eater, I can say SOS is top notch. The salsa is so fresh every time and the chips are perfectly flakey without breaking into a million pieces.I can’t say enough about my love for SOS- I visit at least twice a month. Best happy hour in the area. $4 margs, $3 queso, $2 babacoa foldies (fire). We’ve also had some awesome servers over the years. A good place to be a regular!"
"I ordered Barbocoa & steak taco. The meat was tender on them. But meat was void of spice. Bland tasting. It was hard to get a waitress since it was somewhat busy. One lady was doing a lot of work by herself. Restaurant is cozy."
"4.25 stars if Google would allow it. We frequently eat out and for the first time we ventured to South of Summit in Waldo for brunch. I believe they are owned by the estate team that owns Summit Grill. The serves do a great job offering drinks early. Chips are obviously home made as thick as they are. The real shine comes from the many different salsa options that are provided to the table. Brunch was fantastic. I sadly missed out on the Mexican hamburger, but treat myself the hash. My wife had the verde taco and my daughter had a life sized barbocoa burrito. The tacos might have been the best I have had in Kansas City. My hash was decent, but lacked crunch because the chips were a little soggy. Then there was the burrito. Holly smokes that was a game changer! We will absolutely visit again and try their main menu. South of Summit is worth the trip to Waldo for sure."
"Dined at South of Summit for the first time over the weekend and I cannot say enough how cute this place is! The decor is absolutely on point and invites you in as soon as you step through the door. We were greeted with the smell of freshly made churros so that really was enticing. From the seemless color palettes to the velvet chairs, and hidden trinkets on the walls you'll feel like you're in the Southwest during your time here. My partner and I enjoyed a couple types of tequila shots and house margaritas to go with our chips, salsa, and queso to start. The margaritas are fresh to order and made with that special authentic taste! We liked the salsa as well. The chips and queso while fresh aren't anything super special but it helped settle our hunger for sure while waiting for our main course. The menu has a decent variety and I liked the unique taco options like the cheese curd taco. My partner and I tried the cheese curd taco, the boca beef taco, shrimp taco, and fish taco. The only critique I have is all of the tacos have relatively the same toppings so there isn't much of a difference in flavor profiles aside from the protein choice. While they were flavorful I would suggest switching up the toppings between each so they stand out a bit more! Overall we enjoyed everything we had and could not stop talking about the vibe and decor. Our server was also absolutely fantastic and very friendly so I appreciate the tentativeness! We will certainly be back for happy hour specials again."
