"We enjoyed the food. We did the buffet. Probably won't take that route again. $25 per person. Small selection. 3 meats, 3 vegetables, 2 salad choices. The next time we'll try the menu. The "live" music left a little to be desired. An older man singing stuff from the 90s in a sort of Perry Como style to recorded back ground music and vocals. He DID play the flute and saxophone well though. Juke box or nothing would have felt less awkward. The place looked a little worn down but clean. I'll go back at least one more time and see if we like the menu selection better. The coleslaw and the greens were killer. You place your order from a kiosk. I could see if they were very busy how that could really hold up the line. I personally would prefer a waitress."
"My first and more than likely the last time coming. We were instructed to place and pay for order on the computer one of three in the restaurant, had to wait in line. The computer didn’t show the full menu for some reason, so we opted for the buffet, it was all you can eat. As for meat options: chicken wings, catfish strips and crawfish. Both chicken and fish had a good crunch and okay in taste. Veggies: smoked collard greens ( too much vinegar and not a good taste) smoked greens beans ( canned and not good) fried corn also not good and candied sweet potatoes which were surprisingly good but they weren’t peeled. There were two kinds of soup available, potato and tomato basil ( that was horrible) dessert: mini cinnamon rolls. Very disappointing to say the least. Now looking at the menu that was on the table it was different from the computer. The price for the seafood boil I thought was too high. My husband got the rib dinner to try, The ribs appeared to be meaty but tasted like they had been boiled before being smoked. The restaurant does have live music ( not tonight). I thought it was too dark on the inside, sticky floors and our table top wasn’t secured ( it moved some)."
"Great food and welcoming atmosphere. We were greeted as soon as we came in and invited to sit anywhere. They had a lunch buffet laid out that looked great(mountain of crawfish), but we got entrees. You order on a kiosk and they bring the food out to you. The brisket was fantastic. Perfectly smoked and flavorful. The jambalaya was also excellent. I had a spice of 7/10, it was just hot enough to make me sweat a bit and didn't overpower the flavors. There was a drum set in the corner so they must have live music at some point, I'll have to go back and check that out. Definitely worth dropping in if you haven't been."
"This place has great food and even better hospitality! I felt like I was visiting with family while enjoying a good southern meal! I ordered the all you can eat buffet and was not disappointed at all. This place is a must to visit if you are in Kansas City and want some good food from some great people."
"They were out of hush puppies so I got the Mac & cheese instead, which was horrible, made with overcooked penne pasta and just flavorless. The yams were good however big mama is rolling in her grave because y'all couldn't take the skin off! The collards taste like they are out of a can and are way too vinegary. The 3 meat gumbo was disappointing as well. Sausage was good, but the chicken was rubbery, also It's thick like chowder or a curry dish, and the shrimp taste like the precooked frozen kind. I was so excited to try this place because there are ZERO soul comfort food restaurants in the area! You may have the folks who don't know any better fooled, but y'all are definitely cutting corners in all the wrong places, which is a huge let down, especially with the prices you charge!"
