"I have to say that I am absolutely shocked reading some of the positive reviews for Dr. Rich. The person I encountered in my first therapy session was so different from the helpful, empathetic therapist that I’m reading about that the difference would be comical if it wasn’t so potentially damaging. I can only surmise that a prerequisite for receiving useful treatment from Dr. Rich is that you agree with all of his opinions and experiences when it comes to politics, race, civil rights, reproduction, and religion. If you don’t, good luck. I came to Dr. Rich seeking professional counseling and tools that I could use to better communicate with my husband. Instead I was argued with, belittled, and talked down to for an hour and a half. I would never recommend Dr. Rich to anyone, but specifically as a POC and a woman, I ask that anyone seeking guidance on race relations or inclusion during this tumultuous time avoid this person at all costs. Instead of creating an environment of trust and safety, he chastised me on my every opinion and argued with me that I was entirely wrong–even when it came to my own personal experiences. I went into this expecting unbiased guidance and instead got his opinionated, argumentative, and condescending perspective on everything. At one point, he literally said  that he was struggling not to be patronizing towards me. If you haven’t gathered by now, he failed miserably, but the fact that he felt it was appropriate to say those words to me in that environment made me certain that I was dealing with a person who felt zero professional responsibility to behave compassionately towards me. My disappointment with Dr. Rich is not just a matter of disliking a person who disagrees with me. I never fathomed that I would walk into a therapy session and have the person that I came to for help argue me down at every opportunity. I know entirely too much about this person's life and his opinions. It’s not my place to say whether or not Dr. Rich is a bad person, but he is definitely a bad therapist if he can’t deliver consistent care no matter the client’s background. Absolutely would NEVER recommend."
