Reviews
"The locals seem to rave about it, but the food was not great. The whole place needs a revamp."
"History is amazing, atmosphere is okay, good is okay. Server was rushing and kept saying we got two more tables…. There were only three tables occupied. Thought we try fried green tomatoes. They were bland. Chicken and dumplings were pretty tasty. They were out of gumbo. Glad we made it by but wouldn’t recommend for food."
"Bring your own wine and don’t bother with the menu. Your delightfully polite and very Southern server will tell you what to get/the fresh fish they have that day (redfish and snapper are standards, with trout and flounder showing up a lot, too). And you’ll have the salad with the comeback dressing, and maybe a cup of the gumbo. All the fish is prepared basically the same way — broiled or grilled creating a light crisp finish on the top and succulent meat beneath. The fish is served in a drizzle of Worcestershire-spiked lemon butter sauce that I’ve never had anywhere else. It is sublime. I’ve eaten at the Mayflower maybe 30 times over the last 20 years and never had a bad experience or even close to one. It is a treasure."
"The redfish was delicious, and I loved how juicy and flavorful it was. The fried crabclaws were pretty good and liked the comeback sauce with it. The cornbread and rolls were pretty good, and I liked the okra. The fried green tomatoes weren't good."
