"I am currently at the public park across from this school with my friend and our kids. i'm assuming they use this park for the school for recess, however these aren't recess hours clearly as this little girl has been playing in the park for an hour now and they just NOW realized she was missing and came and got her. i got it on video and i hope they tell the little girls parents and they remove her from the school. i read some of the other reviews and this clearly isn't a well run nor safe school"
"School has no structure, kids had random searchs. Privacy was invaded even when there wasn't a reason. They closed down 1 or three student restrooms for half a year. ( Not for plumbing). Administration did not know boundaries. Only good thing I can say about this school is Clement and probably Chris."
"Our middle schooler was not doing as well as we expected nor as well as he wanted at a traditional Portland school. He counselor suggested we send him to MLS. This was a huge mistake on our part. There is very little oversight by the teachers, they seem to be overwhelmed, and there is no discipline. Our kid got stabbed in the face with a pencil by another student, less than an inch away from his eye. The administration dealt with through "restorative justice" where both kids apologize to each other. I guess our kid needed to apologize for his face being in the way of another kids (sharpened) pencil. This is the worst of many incidence our kid was involved in during the two months he was there. He is not an instigator and he was never accused by anybody of starting any trouble. He's a quiet, shy kid who needed more help learning. This was exactly the wrong place to send him. The two months he spent there was two months too long and he's scarred from the experience (literally and figuratively). He's now thriving at a private school where is happy and earning mostly As in his classes. Parents, I urge you to consider what you're getting your kids into before sending them to this school. I could not have been more disappointed in the principal (she's now gone, I believe) or P.P.S. for allowing this school to run the way it does."
"I went to this school for 5th and 6th grade, back in 1982-83. I remember the egg drop, and the pool was pretty cool. We also did Outdoor School, that was probably the most memorable thing about this school for me. One year the student body watched Roots in the auditorium...I remember, we called the teachers by their first names. And if I recall, their off-campus policy was really lax."
"We are so lucky to be a part of this amazing community! The focus here is on experiential learning, being a kind and creative community member, and creating a safe space to learn and experiment. Our first grader regularly comes home bubbling over with excitement and enthusiasm after his school day."
