"I have never written a negative review before now, but how unprofessional management is at this complex and the property management company is insane. I would not recommend for anyone to live at Capitola Commons Apartments. The only positive things about this complex are the size of the units, the kind maintenance man, and the amazing, friendly neighbors. The manager, Lexie, pushes her religious beliefs onto others, which is not only illegal, but also very disrespectful. She has handed out Jehovah’s Witness cards out to residents (without saying what they are) who do not appreciate it and find it extremely uncomfortable and disrespectful. Several months ago, I had an issue with mold in my closet and bedroom and was told by maintenance and management that it was due to never having my windows open and never running a fan, both of which I always did daily and regularly, and I told them that. I was told that the mold was essentially all my fault, and that there was nothing they could do about it, besides cleaning it, which I ended up doing myself. I was also told I was the only unit to experience this issue. I later found out this was not true, and a previous resident in my unit had complained about mold on the stairs and the upstairs landing directly outside of my unit (that shares a wall with my bedroom) for years and all they did was power wash it. About a month later, I found more mold spreading throughout my bedroom, on that same shared wall. I finally got management to agree to send out a mold specialist to take samples, and guess what they found… a leak outside by the stairwell that was causing moisture and mold in my bedroom. So, I guess it was not my fault after all. It is very frustrating to be blamed and to have to convince someone that there is a bigger issue at play, especially when it is a health concern. It has now been nearly two months since I moved out. That is also how long I have tried to get the company to provide my insurance company with information and documentation about this mold issue. Lexie has been very unhelpful and her manager, Katrina, has been extremely rude, disrespectful, and condescending. They have been lying and being extremely unprofessional. When Katrina finally called me back, she wouldn’t even let me talk on the phone and when I asked if I could say one thing, she said no. I truly believe that they are hiding something since it shouldn’t be hard and take over two months (still have not received anything!) to email two documents to my insurance company. Many residents have had issues and been treated unfairly by the management at this property. You should highly reconsider living at Capitola Commons or any of Summit Real Estate Management’s other properties."
"Returned their written notice that we were not renewing our lease more than 60 days in advance. Then called them about 20 days before we were moving out and they told us they never received the notice. They then tried to bill us another month of rent after we had moved out because we didn't give them notice.... Never missed a month of rent while living there during Covid and they are still out to get more money."
"I've lived here for about 2 years now. It's a nice place. Apartments aren't fancy, but they're very nice, they have everything you need with some added space. Pretty quiet neighborhood (pretty much everyone goes to sleep early). Pricing has been reasonable. Management is nice, competent, and doesn't bother you with weird inspections and they're adequate with maintenance requests (couple days). I love that my unit has an included garage. The floor plans are great for splitting, they make sense and have space. Great location. The only downsides are: Parking can be a little tight with actual parking spots, but since there is a low-traffic street in back for additional parking it's never really a problem. My guests and I are always able to park somewhere, it just might be a hassle with groceries and such. There aren't a lot of amenities (which I don't mind) While the neighborhood is quiet, the apartments themselves are not very soundproof. You can very easily hear noise outside. Overall very pleased!"
"I recently renewed my lease. Pam the weekend manager was very friendly and was one of the reasons I initially decided to rent here. The apartments are clean and spacious and the upkeep is great. If I need anything repaired, I can always count on David the maintenance gentleman to be around the complex and accessible as early as 6:00 AM, before I start my work day. The general manager Susie also takes pride in the complex. Big two thumbs up for this place."
"The crew at Capitola Commons is one of the best things about this well-maintained complex. They are friendly, professional, and always there when you need them. Loved living here. The units are large with high ceilings and lots of closet space."
